What Is the Plastic peice in my LICP???

I looked under my car today and i noticed that there is a piece of hard plastic that is tapped into my Lower intercooler pipe.

1. What the hell is it??
2. What does it do???
3. Can i take it off because it seems to be restrictive????

it should be the Silencer which came on the earlier 2Gs

yeah you can, only the 95s i think have it, aftermarked licp's get rid of it

mine is a 96, and had that piece.

yeah you can take it out...and you can replace it for about 45 cents at home depot. Find a pipe that fits in the tube and a small pipe will work. Thats what I did, the only other alternative is to spend 70-90 beans on aftermarket. good luck

hmmm, all the 95's I've seen, none of them had that. Must've been a Late 95 and 96 thing or sumthin'

I ripped my old LICP pipe out when I did the J-pipe on the 14b. I don't recall seeing a restrictor. I have an early build '95 TSI AWD.

I had it, and removed it when I installed the 16g.

I've got it, or had it I guess, and I'm a late model 95...

take it off and replace it with like 6 inches of 2 1/4" fence pipe

mine was built in 9/94 as were several others in our club(most were earlier). Must be why we don't see the mysterious silencer
