Copper Head Gasket

I got my headgasket sittin here so now i gotta O-Ring my block and head..... i have my company and all i have equipment that could O-Ring it.... but what i need to know is how deep does the groove have to be... and how far away from the cylinder does it have to be?

You should probably let a pro-machine shop do this. And I'm pretty sure just the head gets o-ringed. Here is a pic if it helps.

Actually you can O-ring the Head OR the Block; both may be difficult to align correctly.

As far as O-ring specs, I let my machinist figure that out, I can get the o-ring specs when he returns from vaction in a week. If you still need them by then PM me.

I do know that I had oil/coolant sealing problems when I tried SS orings with a dry metal HG. From the research I did, most guys that used SS o-rings used a stock composite style HG, or they used copper spray (or Hylomar) on a metal HG. If Copper O-rings were used, the metal HG would seal with or without any sealant.

The combination that am currently running is a SS O-ringed block with stock composite HG and no sealant. I have not had any oil/coolant sealing problems after switching to stock HG, but I have not tested the integrity of the rings yet.
