hey guys im wonderin who out there has a 18g greddy turbo ive had this turbo for a while now and had it ported and swapped my motor with a 6bolt with ross pistons eagle rods and hks 272 cams im using the new apexi afc2 for now. my thing is i did all this work on my 97 gsx im thinkin it should be balls out fast but crap its not pullin as hard as it should what do u guys think could be the crappy turbo???

18g isnt that bad, have you had the AFC dyno tuned yet by a professional? a buddy of mine was running a wierd turbo (16g killer) and that brought him up 40hp.

also check your plugs, wires, fuel filter etc

Too slow? How slow is that? The 18G has gone 11's on a street trim 2g. If you're already there, then the turbo is holding you back. Without a mods list it's hard to pinpoint the weak link in your setup, if there is one.

sorry hers my mod list 1g head,hks 272 cams,1mm over nitride coated valves,650 injectors,3angle valve job,supra fuel pump,6 bolt bottem end. stock crank,eagle rods,ross pistons9-1 comp,balance shaft removed,meatl head gasket,arp head studs,greddy 18g,hks twin sequential bov,hks wastegate, greddy big frount mount,intercooler kit ,apexi safc2,hks carbon hiper exhaust

we were thinkin 11s now 12s look more ideal checked everything we tuned on the highway next stop dyno but could it help that much

Yes, at that level of mods dyno tuning will help. Give it a try then get some times. That should show where the weak spots are, and where you should focus next.

I'm not trying to diss you in any way shape or form.

That said....

Remember- throwing parts at a car won't do sh*t to make it go fast.
Going fast is 5% parts, 5% driver skill, and 90% tuning.
Spend the next couple of thursdays and Saturdays at the dyno, with trips to the track on Friday and Wednesday (depending on track and dyno availability in your area of course)
All the mods you listed are definately enough to make your car fast as hell for a street car... If you don't think its fast, my opinion is that it can't be tuned right. (or your used to REALLY fast cars)
What kind of logging software do you use (if any)? At your level of mods, some kind of data logging is mandatory, if only as insurance.

well no afpr yet it should be on wed. I dont take any offense Im just lookin for some feedback from fellow dsmers I mean what kind of power should I expect. My friends sr20det 240sx keeps up with me and its pretty stock except for a frount mount so i know theres something wrong. Im definately going to dyno the crap out of it as for datalogging i have a pocketlogger doesnt really help much but its something.

Truly wasted space. Not needed.

The 18g is not a HORRIBLE turbo. There is MUCH better for the money though. I only bought the turbo because I got a good deal ($900).

This turbo has gone 11's on a few cars. Loren Jacobs I know went 11.7's in his 1997 gsx street car. This turbo does require some tuning to hit its sweet spot. Took about 2 months for me to get it all down pat, and I know I had plenty more to go. Best performance seemed to be in the area of 22-24psi. 25+ it seems to get heat soaked. But that might have also been due to me still being on STOCK injectors;)

Best performance for me including my setup:
Greddy 18g stock
Greddy FMIC
Greddy hard piping
Type-S bov
Profec-B 23psi
110 octane
Apexi N1 dp/cb
S-AFC
Holley 255hp

stock injectors, stock longblock, no porting of anything, no nitrous

I only ran 1/8 mile due to stock injectors:
best et: 7.86 (had a good 60' that helped 1.684)
best mph: 92.8

Just keep tuning your car. Do a leak-down test on your intercooler piping. There is a V-FAQ for it to make one yourself. CHECK ALL YOUR LINES THAT ARE BOOSTED. Vacuum leaks are the culprit the majority of the time. GL

thanks for the input but i just ordered the f.p red ive been hearing tooo much bad stuff about the greddy kit i enjoyed it but its track season
