I was in the middle of changing the HG and apparently got some misinformation on the torque amount. Needless to say, Stud go "POP" :mad: I am replacing all the studs and wanted to know if it is necessary to replace the brand new HG if I never started the car? It is a composite OE Mitsu gasket. BTW, the block is O-ringed.
 
What did you torque it to? What do you mean "pop"
The HG should fine, you o -ringed your block?
 
Pop meant too much torque and the stud broke. I was told in the area of 100 as much as 120 ft. lbs. I got my new studs in and it looks like ARP says in the range of 75-85 ft. lbs. Just wondering because I am not interested in going through that experience again! My block was o-ringed after I melted a piston a couple years ago and had to have the block bored out. If this blown HG continues I am beginning to wonder if that(o-ringed block) isn't my problem?!

Um... o-ringing or not has nothing to do with melting pistons, maybe you just mean you did it at that time.
Since you're close- and won't you have to pull the head to replace the stud anyway? -I'd pop for another gasket. And maybe find one of them picture books that tells you what to do instead of asking morons.
 
I have one of those picture books as you call it. But I was under the impression that ARP studs used a different amount of torque than stock. I guess i will have to do some more researching?!
 
I can't help but laugh that our heads need more torque than honda's make.....LOL

Well the torque of the ARP studs depends on if you are using the moly lube that comes with it. if you are then they need to be in the area of like 78-87 ft lbs off the top of my head. If your not using th elube then its about stock where you set it at which is like 120 something I think. Anyhow, if you never torqued down all the studs Im sure the HG is fine to use. If you can get one cheap then you may want to get a new one. but if your cheap like me than just reuse it...
 
Well, before I bought all new studs I was using oil. SO now I am using the arp lube. I am just tired of screwing with it at this point. I bought all new studs and a new gasket. This thing will be finished this weekend! About the ? regarding the composite gasket and the o-ringed bock, I haven't heard that yet but you could very well be right. I took my head to a very reputable shop in my area and they have worked on several DSM's that have had good luck with the stock gasket so I am giving it a try.
