I was thinking about going with a Synapse BOV and replacing my 1G. Will I need to weld the 1g flange adapter to the BOV or is it a simple bolt on affair?

Usually you would look into either replacing the existing flange with one that works for the new style BOV. This would mean removing the stock flange and welding the new one in place. Or you could see about locating a flange adapter that bolts to the stock flange on the piping and has the proper flange on the opposite end for your new BOV. No welding should be required with the second option. You should also not be welding anything to your BOV for this.

Also keep in mind that a lot of these SSQV BOV's don't come with provisions to recirculate them. If you're picking one up, find yourself the proper adapter for it so as you are not venting to atmosphere between shifts. It is not recommended - unless, of course, you have a method to accomodate for this such as a GM Maf setup.

It's a bolt on affair, they have a synapse-to-1g adapter.

The adapter looks like the one pictured on the right (granted this is another synapse BOV but it's the same adapter)

This is to give you an idea of how high it sits

It's a hell of a lot more affordable to modify the 1g bypass valve so it holds more boost if your going to still try to vent it from the same UICP and same diameter hole.
