I have a 91 eagle talon Tsi awd turbo with 126,000 on it. I have the following mods on it.

16g turbo, apexi n1 3" catback exhaust, apexi n1 downpipe, apexi bov, ported 2g exhaust manifold, new fuel pump and aftermarket boost guage and air fuel gauge.

My car smokes a little and I was wanting to know should I just go ahead and start building up a new motor to put in it or is there life after smoke?? I'm going to do a compression check on it tomorrow. If it is just a bad valve of something should I just get a new head for it??

Also what is everyone's suggestion on what I should boost at??

dont build another money, that's a waste of money, fix what's broken and spend the cash wisely.

164 if i'm correct and i think that each cyclinder should be with in 12psi of eachother. I was looking at a shop manual today at work but don't quote me.

I love getting paid to work on DSM's

164 is very very good. I would be happy to see 140-150 on a 125,XXX motor. Service limit in the book is 110.

What color is the smoke?

Pure white is coolant, that be a headgasket.

Bluish white is oil, and most likely valve stem seals.

Those are most often the causes, but be sure about it first. Neither are very expensive, both involve pulling the head. A metal headgasket runs around $85 ( ARPs are around 90, not a bad idea to put in then), and valve stem seals are cheap, round $35 i believe, but will require a machine/head shop to do, although you can do it yourself.

If your compression comes out low, or low just in one cylinder it could be because of tired piston rings. You could be getting blow-by oil from the rings not sealing completely, causeing the smoke.

Just my 2 cents...

Well I did my compression test and all the cylinders tested at 90 psi. Does that sound like bad rings???

and since i do have the manuel yea it is 164 with no cyl varrying no more than 15psi

and 90psi uhh shit man.. that should have been rebuilt along time ago.. yea tear the thing down and look at your rings there probly near gone if it's 90psi in all cyl's... the smoke is probly from oil geting into the combustion chamber LOL. does it use oil?? if it does that would be my bet..

90 is low...are you buring alot of oil...or have you even checked your oil levels..smoking and low oil levels...is some indications of bad rings..

Yah it burns oil not that bad though I change my oil every 3000 miles. So I rebuild is probably a good Idea?

Trick I have heard. Run your compression test, then squirt some motor oil into the cylinder. If the compression comes up, then you have a bad rings.

Oh yeah thats what I was trying to remember..yeah very good test to run...

Also when your doing your compression test it is supposed to be on a warm engine. Start your car up, let it idle and let the fans cycle one time. Then shut it off and do the compression test.

A compression test on a cold engine will give you very different readings.
