i just got my tial wastegate in today. and i was wondering if that steel ring that it comes with is that what you weld to the manifold and then weld the flange to the steel ring.

so what side of the steel ring gets welded to the manifold the smaller side or the bigger side

the steel ring in this picture

steel ring goes into the bottom hole of the WG, the underside in this picture and it compresses the spring as you tighten it onto the manifold, weld the bracket thing onto the manifold... the smaller side of the ring goes into the ring first

so it goes manifold---->to flange---->to steel ring---->to wastegate. is this right.

so i have to just get something to weld the manifold to the flange.
what do you reccomend for that.

just get someone to TIG weld the flange onto the manifold and put a hole through the manifold, or what you could do is get a o2 sensor housing with a flange for the WG on it and do it that way

Holy confusion!

You weld the FLANGE to the manifold, and that ring is the gasket. You can see the indent in the flange. That side goes towards the wastegate...and don't forget to stick the ring in when you bolt it up like I did and have to pull the wastgate again and insert it. :p

hmm..

the shop i went told me that if you try to weld the flange to the manifold the manifold will crack becuase of using two different types of metal.

Tell them to weld it or you are gonna trash them on the internet:p

Mine is welded.

Edit: and futhermore, a 2g manifold is fairly hard to crack. Thats why us 1gers upgrade.

What the heck...why do you have three flanges in that pic? One on the mani, the gate, and the one laying there.

My 40mm TiAl had a different flange set up than yours but not that different.

The flange on the floor by itself is for the dumptube. The one on the manifold is self explanitory. The two flanges on the gate are to connect the two above mentioned flanges :p
