I set a goal I wanna run high 12's. I currently have a small 16g, 1g bov, 2.5 full exhaust, no cat, dejon tool i/c piping, and turbo xs mbc. I only have a rewired fuel pump and I know that I need some more fuel mods. But my question is in regards to what all I need. I've read the tuning guides and they aren't very specific. Is it possible to reach 12's with only a new fuel pump and pocketlogger, or do I need to plan on injectors and dsmlink.

while possible, its very improbable. Get the pump. Grab a set of bigger injectors. Go with at least an SAFC(You may also want ot look at the new RamChargers unit) And you may also want to buy an FMIC. This will giveyou a very solid foundation for achieving your goals.

There's tons of people in the 12's without any fuel upgrades, except maybe a rewired or 190 fuel pump. This is without ANY fuel control. If your only goal is a 12 second pass, you already have everything you need, assumign we're talking about using race gas. You certainly don't need a fmic, unless you want 11's.

It is posts like TRBOTSI that make me ask this question. With only 12.99sec goals, I don't want to waste money on something I won't really need.

Of course you might be someone like me, who runs a whole second slower than he should. :(

Then you need to shoot for a 11.99 second car in order to reach your 12.99 second goal.

Some of us sux at teh tuning. :D

Sorry, specifically relating to your queston: I'm running only a 13.5, yet I'm running out of fuel with my rewired stock pump. There is no way in hell I could hit the 12s with my current stock fuel system.

Basically what I'm saying is: If your stock fuel system is like mine, forget about 12s.

I was seeing 100% duty cycle on my 450s, running mid 13s. On VP C16. Bleh. I suck.

That was last year, though. This year, I have 850s, a Supra pump, and an AFPR. I'm going to support the new Iraq economy singlehandedly. :thumb:

Well I agree and disagree...
I think if you are one of those silly dsm'ers who likes to say that all they did was this that and they ran 12's...then just get the fuel pump. But if you want a reliable way of smacking some low-mid 12's with average tunign then go the route that most everyone else does, all the fuel mods...

Your in Nebraska so i assume you get 93 octane out there. The stock computer with no afc is pretty damn good if you have a fuel pump with no injectors. Im sure running like 18psi on a 16g with c16 and a rewired 190lph will get 12's with other supporting mods. But who wants to have a daily drive that can only do mid 13's or so and then have somethign completely different at the track? We all drive our cars (most of us) on the street to go to work...we dont usually take a drag strip route, so IMO you should at leist get a rewired 190lph, and a FPR, so you can bump pressure a little when duty cycles get high. Other than that you should prolly want an exhaust and intake,mbc...etc If you want to maximize your 16g setup than you shoudl consider some larer injectors and a FMIC. This will enable you to take advantage on ump gas and run like 18-19psi on the street and do 12's in street trim to...

A fuel pump is a must, bigger better, as long as you have a fpr. A high base FP and race gas and you'll have enough fuel to run 12's given everything else is in order, even on 450's and a smic.

Fuel control is also a must, 2g's run rich, race gas wants a leaner a/f, leaner means ecu see's less airflow, less airflow is more timing, timing is power, etc. 2g love to run rich, you may be able to get away w/o it on a 1g because they have more hp friendly ECU's and tend to run leaner.

2 cents on my setup, upgrading right now:
450cc inj
Had rewired 190 w/8gauge
stock FPR getting over run by pump
knob style afc
ported 16g w/2.5"T-back
smic
91 octane

17-18 psi on 91 octane leaned out slighty 2-4% 4k-7.2k gave
17-19 degrees timing by 7000rpm, egt's 860-890C
clean plugs

There's no reason that on C16 20-21psi can't be ran w/some tuning which is enough hp to get you into the 12's w/proper setup(awd, fwd w/stickies). Another thing, you dont need a $300 afc to get a car tuned. My $50 old school afc works just fine.

My favorite saying for DSM's:
Keep it simple stupid.

They cost about the same as smaller injectors, and with the DSMLink, they idle like stock. If I was using some old-skool tuning device, I wouldn't have got them.

I'll probably get a bigger Turbo eventually. Why buy twice? :thumb:

Yeah doesn't maine winters suck? We didn't get as much snow as usual, it was just damn cold

Yeah, i plan on going for high 12's. I will probably get bigger injectors and a stronger fuel pump, just because I think it is a good idea. Heh but that is when I get some cash.

So do I have to get an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator when I install a new pump? I was looking at a walbro 255lph but I didn't think I needed a new FPR, I thought I would just drop in. If get an afc, do you think pocketlogger is a good companion, or should I just use an afc and egt guage? I'm trying to decide between an afc, egt guage (and possibly pocketlogger) or dsmlink.

Some people have said as long as you get the lph that you dont need an AFPR. Personally I would like to have one just to be on the safe side but I guess its not necesary. Regarding the other decision I would either get the SAFC, EGT & Pocketlogger or DSMlink and EGT. The DSMlink replaces the pocketlogger and afc aspsect and brings more options to the table but for base tuning I would suggest having an EGT unless your going to be tuning with a wideband.
