HI fellow dsmers..i had a quick question..im not a newbie to these cars but ive read in a few foorums that some of you have actually installed new pistons ex:95s or forged or stock in your motor by dropping you oil pan crank and started there...i know its possible and like many i cant afford to goto a shop or a garage ..my driveway like many is a garage to me :p but if you guys know how this is done then please let me know.. alittle time and effort in writing this to help me out a bit would be greatly appreciated.since information is a gift from one to another in other words...Thankyou safe boosting:rolleyes:

Generally you take the connecting rod end caps off the crank and pull the pistons out. You need the head off to do this also. For reinstallation you drop the rod through the top of the head and compress the rings so you can put the piston in. That's the 15 second version, there's a lot of other stuff to do also.

I definately wouldn't do this without the help of somebody who has done it before, preferably on a 4 cylinder. The piston removal and installation isn't terribly complicated, but there's a lot of stuff to keep track of. Like allwheelTSI said, contamination can be a problem doing it this way, but if different pistons is all you have in mind this method should work.
