im planning on getting a 20g and im going to be running boost around 16-17psi street and about 20-23psi at the track and was wondering what wastegate would be good for that boost range and turbo. and is 550's going to be enough. these are mods


bored .020, ross 8.5:1 street pistons, no balance shafts, ported head,ss nitrate 1mm valves,mitsu 4 piece head gasket,web cams, vpe lifters, all arp bolts,ported intake manifold,ported evo III manifold,ported95 o2 housing,big 16g turbo,34 mm flapper, 3'' apex'i downpipe,3'' apex'i n1 catback, act 2600lb clutch,fidanza flywheel, walbro 255 fuelpump, extrememotorsports mbc, magnecor 8.5 mm wires,k&n, tdo5h turbo elbow,2g mas, dejon intake,digital tuning pocket logger,apex'i s-afc,lucas 550's, autometer boost,egt,airfuel gauges
 
I am going with a similar setup...mods in my profile plus a 20g (clipped 10deg) and a Tial 35mm gate. I have read plenty about 550s with this setup, and it seems they will be fine....for now. I plan on going to a front mount and 660s this summer to properly compliment the 20g.
 
I posted a thread about injectors for a 20g a while back asking the same question and they all said that 550's will work on a high duty cycle but you should get 660's for a 20g.
 
That should be fine, but your injector duty cycle will be high if your running around 20lbs of boost on pump gas. It should be fine on racegas. I'm sure you can get away with a 35mm wg, but if you want to be able to run lower boost levels better, I would go with a 40mm. This will cost you abit more $$$ though.
 
A 35 mm gate will work good on that setup. Im not sure abotu the 550's on a 20g at that boost level though. On race gas youd be almost maxing them out and im sure youd ont plan on runnign race gas 24/7. Just for your motors sake getting 660's would be a good idea.
 
I have a HKS gate and I can run as low as 8 psi with no creep at all on a br20g. I believe the HKS gate is the cheapest 40mm gate you will find. Sounds loud as hell too.
