Anyone went ahead and swapped there US spec 4G63(turbo) for the JDM spec engine? I am thinking of swapin mine... (113K miles) for a JDM with lower miles, hoping for better compresion and an overall stronger engine. I love my DSM and want to keep it a while, so what do you all think... is the JDM worth it? Thanks:thumb:

jdm's tend to have very hard lives (at least the ones they ship this way). There are no benefits to using one that spent time in japan vs. here as they are the same specs.

the engines we get from Japan are usually from totaled cars. And how do cars usually get totaled? RECKLESS DRIVING! meaning high engine wear.

Why does everyone have big wood for JDM? I have a JDM broom, is it worth more?

i was going to do the same swap and when i was talking to people about it i heard that they get crank walk really easy

first off i'd like to say that none of u guys have a fu(kin clue as to what ur talkin about. the jdm is more than worth it. first off, i'd like to say that they DO NOT have the same specs as a US motor. they have 000000 emissions. also, they are taken out of a 1g galant vr4, meaning they CAN NOT get crank walk like a 2g. they come with a 14b turbo unless ur a lucky one like me, u get a big 16g turbo with 550cc injectors. where else can u get all that for 1000? even if u do not get one with a 16g, the motor has 210hp, unlike ur stock 1g motor with 195. as for u folks that say they have a hard life, kindly take this piece of poop and savor its taste. these cars have not had that hard of a life. in japan, they strip the engines out of any car 7 years old or older reguardless. they have EXTREMELY strick policies over in japan, and WILL NOT allow vehicles to run on the road with problems. they maintain their vehicles quite well, compared to over here. all u fools that posted here need to read up and ACTUALLY DO THE SWAP FOR URSELF. yea there are a very minescule group of people who get the sh!t end of the stick with this swap, but its worth it. unless u do it for urself, and read every single bit of information about the swap and know what ur getting urself into, DO NOT FORM IGNORANT OPINIONS!

close: they're all 16gs, just the upper model is the 'big 16g' they have alot better volumetric efficiency on the exaust side. also we've got 510s, unfortunantly not 550s :(

jdm motors are usually under 40k because its cheaper for them to buy crate motors after a failed inspection than retrofit an old motor... so they sit untill we import em. I can garantee you that almost 75 percent of the motors aren't totaled.

Anyone whos got problems with jdm motors is welcome to take a ride in my 'stock' TSI/G-vr4 AWD...

I'm sorry...for a second there I thought I was on a Honda board....

Who cares about JDM? It's just a fad. You get props from a ricer who thinks it's the coolest thing....woohoo! I'm happy with my :talon:

I'm sporting my ADM tired ass motor, that owned some guys silly 1300 dollar JDM motor... i guess it's all in luck... but i'd personally rather pay 2000 or so and rebuild a motor, and know thats it is NEW, and that i'm not getting another tired motor with 130k miles... :/

1) Please explain to the class how the '1g galant VR4' 'CAN NOT get crank walk like a 2g'. And you know this how?
2) People in Japan beat the crap out of their cars BECAUSE they know in 7 years or any minor issues the engine gets swapped.
3) Explain to me how a rebuilt 6-bolt block is any different than a JDM block.
4) As far 'first off i'd like to say that none of u guys have a fu(kin clue as to what ur talkin about' goes: Pot? Meet Kettle.

Uhm. No. The majority of all JDM motors imported are from Galant VR4's not the EVO I-III's. Therefore they are much more similar to the stock US Spec Galant VR4 (minus the Cyclone nonsense).

Agreed.

if you rebuild your engine and keep it at stock specs, then you deserve to be slapped.

Obviously he means building up the motor's internals.

And how many 6 bolts do you know that crank walk??

Poor

I'm glad Sean had the patience for addressing this. It just makes me want to kick some of you in the satchel.
