I looking to get a 3" cat back and downpipe in the near future. I want the performance gain without the pissed off bumble-bee sound. What do you guys think is the quietest exhaust available?

Thanks

3" and quiet? LOL Good luck. ;) :D

Yeah, there really isn't a 3" cat-back that is going to be that quiet. Out of all the ones I've heard on a 2g, the Thermal seemed to be the most mellow through the rpm's. Definately don't get an ATR if you are looking to be quiet.

lose the GTS covers. And anyways i have used a APexi N1 on my 99 GSX and it was fairly quite, well that is compared to my old ATR and Thermal good luck

I've been considering the N-1. Sounds like a good package. I can just take the silencer out when I need full power.

Those covers are long gone, that is a pic from when I bought the car. The previous owner was a 44 year old guy just getting over his mid-life crisis. I guess the covers reminded him of his Camaro days!

if you put a 3" turbo back exhaust on a stock turbo, w/upgraded intake, BOV and uicp, will there be boost creep?

I creep but ohh well, I still have the stock T25 using the BCS for the stock boost level, after a good hard run I check the peak hold on my greddys, 1.3/1.4 but good thing is that the fuel pressure keeps up. And that my friend the key.

You wan't a good sound that isn't too loud and has some low tone to it? You are describing the Borla catback. I have it, and I consider it the best cat-back out there (of course I would say that, right?). Seriously, if you haven't yet considered it, check it out. It is definately not the cheapest thing out there, but it sounds like it is just what you are looking for

Thanks for the help. I ordered the 3" N-1 downpipe and cat-back last night. Got the set for $650.

i got same setup with downpipe and n1 catback and i like it, how it sits, and how it sounds...you can feel the difference in power.. (no boost crap) everything is runnig fine. CE engine light from time to time...

I ordered from a local shop called Speed Concept. If you get to know them they'll cut you some deals.
As long as I have the exaust out, I plan on porting the O2 housing. Anyone done this at home? Any tips?

I recently got lucky and had a few used parts sold to me at a real low price (some guy gone mad and is going to trade his DSM for an SUV). Anyway, along with everything else he threw in an HKS turbo exhaust that I really didn't think of putting in my car because it was only a 60mm piping. But once I had it on, like you I didn't want a loud exhaust, it sound as close to stock as possible. At idle it is a very low rumble thats barely noticeable and at 70mph it sounded the same as stock from the inside. BTW, the performance difference was noticeable and the turbo spools up much quicker (BOV whistles at every shift too on low rpm shifts).

There isn't a cat with the 3" setup. It's quiet with the silencer. One interesting thing: I got 4 more psi when I replaced the stock exhaust. I had the greddy set at 17 psi before installing the 3" DP and cat-back. First time I got on it the boost shot up past 21 psi!! I reset it to 17 again, but when I put the silencer in it drops to 15 psi. Lots of fun, thanks for the help!!

I tend to disagree with the anti 3" quiet exhaust argument. I feel my 3" exhaust is much more quiet then 2.5" systems I have heard.
