Slowboy Racing engines?

I was on the Slowboy site last night and they seem to be on top of engine building for DSMs. I have only heard good about them and they returned an email to me overnight. I just wondered if anyone here is running one of their short blocks or head setups. The price seems reasonable if they strong and reliable.
Im looking at the Best shortblock and head they offer on the site. Around $4k for both, not including cams. Is this the average price for a built engine or do other companies offer similar?

Talk to Candela on here. I think he's running some Slowboy modified motor parts. As far as a price, most shops are around the same price since the amount of work is very similar. I would personally recommend Slowboy since I've been to the shop numerous times and seen the work they do (Hopefully I'll be able to afford it soon). The guys there are great and they'll do just about anything to make you a satisfied customer.

If I was going to get a motor built, I would either goto Shepherd or Marco. Shepherd is around $2500 for a built block, and if you have the money, $4000 for a 2.4L from magnus can't be beat.

Slowboy wants $2200 for a motor. I would EASILY pay the extra $300 to have shepherd build it with nothing but the best parts. Obviously his motors are proven to take as much as you can throw at it.

i think 4k for a 2.4l from magnus is just way too much for a shortblock

you can order the pistons, rods, get the whole block hot tanked, magnufluxed, bored out to whatever, and basically everything else that needs to be done it to for 2000-2500

but if you got the money i say go for it, magnus does know their way around DSM engines, and i bet they know a few things that your average machine shop doesnt, just take that into consideration

As I said to you earlier 4tire, I love my motor. I got a complete longblock from Mike a month or two ago:confused: After all the little bugs were worked out (nothing to do with the motor) its runnign great. Ive actually been delivering pizza's in it to break it in. After only 200 miles (rings may not have been fully seated to:D ) I ran a compression test to get 180psi straight across the board with no fluctuation at all:thumb: Car is running great and I am more than satisfied with the work, price and customer service that slowboy racing gives. Mike knows quite a bit about these cars and I have no doubt this motor will be all I need.

My setup is basically-stage 2 block, stage 3 head with HKS 272/272 cams
Here are a few pics of it when I first received it a while back...enjoy;)

Slowboy sends you a engine without a core required, BUT if you send them your old block with a GOOD crank they will refund a worthwile corecharge back to you. This info is listed on their site!

this is exactly right. I hate to say it but a friend of minehas been working on a 2.4 liter motor for a year now. He finally got everything all put back together a few months ago and something bad happened. What I don't know but the motor came out and was sent back to the machine shop. Its now back in the car again and was running sat night but was also smoking sat night. I havn't talked to him since then but I just can't help wonder if it is not something small and its gonna mean pulling the motor again.

hes a smart guy and does a lot of the work himself but is somewhat ignorant to the inside dsm circle and the companies that specialize in certain ares(ie: IC's, turbos, strokers, etc). I know he has spent mad loot on this motor so far and I can't help but think that if he would have just went to Magnus(if only he even knew) in the beginning his car would have been still running when he started it the first time several months ago.

I was considering SBR for a shortblock but after talking to some other knowledgable dsm people I am sticking with my original plan and going with a Shep built shortblock. IMO numbers do the talking and that man has some of the most impressive numbers out there.

I don't have a motor from Mike at SBR, but I have to say that he is one of the most helpful and easy to get ahold of guys out there. I purchased nearly $2500 in parts to build my motor and he hooked me up on quite a lot but I'd have to say his great service and knowledge would keep me going back. If I lived closer I would've had him do my machine work too. He's been doing the machine shop for quite a few years so he has plenty of experience, and the retail store he just started i believe last year. It's up to you where you go, but I'm giving Mike :thumb: :thumb: !
