Alrite, I got ripped off on a big16g. Now looking for a turbo to get.

I could go for a big16g again

or

t-28 killer

or

agp L!

Looking for bit more power to mess around w/ not all out drag racer.

Any of the above would be a great turbo for a DSM that still has good spool and a fun top end. Each has some advantages over the others, I suggest just reading the forums for more information as each of these turbos have been discussed umpteen billion times.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with larry, all of those turbos would do you good, but considering that you don't want to race the hell out of your car, but I wouldn't bother with the L1 or L2, they are pretty big turbos, and will kill your spool unless you get the L1R or L2R ball bearing turbos that have much better spool.

I don't do much racing either, so I'm thinking about a Big28 Killer and eliminated the Big16G, just because the Big28 Killer is practically identical performance wise, and it is a direct bolt on for us 2Gs.

I'd say BIG16G. It's so common now that it's relatively inexpensive and it's proven. People say "16G isnt a bolt on for 2g's..", but if you think about it, it is. It bolts up to the stock manifold with no modifications. The only extra thing you NEED with a 16G install vs a T28 is a J-pipe. Everything else that comes in a 16G install kit you would probably get when getting ANY kind of turbo upgrade (i.e. gaskets, S.S. oil line, etc).

Yeah, that is what I meant by bolt on, direct installation with nothing else needed other than the supplied hardware from the turbo kit like the gaskets, oil line and such. The Big16G is proven, but so isn't the Big28 Killer. It might not be as popular, but many people do have them on thier cars. The B16G is old, the Big28 Killer is new. Could be just me, but I'd rather go for the newer design.

Small 16g is better than the big 16g anyway. Especially if you arent racing the hell out of it and you just want a nice street turbo. It would be the turbo i would be debating about and not the big16g

Just my $.02

Good luck.

If you only run a 14.5 with a 16g, I think something is wrong. What do you launch at. You should be running a second faster than you are, but if this is the kind of expected performance from a 16g I would go with a bigger turbo, a lot bigger. But I don't think it is.

I think the L1R would be a fun street turbo. Thats what Im thinking of getting.

I agree, something may be wrong. Or it could be my lack of experience at the track. My friend actually drove the 14.5 that my car ran his first time driving my car. I am a much less experienced driver than he is, and my times were even slower than what he managed.

What do you launch at.

I believe that all the times my car has been to the track have been around 5000rpm launches, give or take a few hundred RPM for experimentation to see what works best.

I agree, my car the way it sat when it ran before should have been faster. I dont know about a whole second faster, but i feel it should have been in the high 13's.

but if this is the kind of expected performance from a 16g I would go with a bigger turbo, a lot bigger. But I don't think it is.

I can assure you that the 16g has more potential in it than you see with my listed track time. I am running a stock fuel system and only 15lbs of boost. It will do better. I have no doubt about that.

Fact is i have had nothing but trouble with the car since i bought it. Im sure that it wasnt running at its max potential, and im sure that there are many issues with it that i have yet to disscover. Every time i go to do the simplest thing on my car it turns into a huge hassle because i have to fix a number of things that the jackass who owned the car before me screwed up. So i wont even begin to assume what could still be messed up with the car that i dont know about, or what was wrong with it when i ran it at the track.

Newest problem is rebuilding the motor since the timming skipped. Once thats done i hope to see much better numbers.

P.S. DeezNuts, You have a nice looking car.

I didn't mean to rag on you, and I'm sure you'll get it all worked out. That does sound like a reasonable launch rpm, I usually go a little higher myself. But sometimes I get wheelspin. If I go a hair below 5000 my turbo bogs because of my stock exaust and then it takes a second to spool. The only reason I said anything is because I believe my cars also runs about mid 14's and I'm basically stock. Good luck with the rebuild.

Oh I just realized you also have the 6/4 combo. That is as good as it gets, so don't give up on your car. Also have you done all of the free mods, like the egr blockoff, TB coolant, and honecomb stuff. Those little things really do work.

And thanks for the compliment, the wheels make a big difference.

i believe the only free mod the previous owner did to the car was the hacked air can.

Since i have owned the car I have been to busy fixing random bs to check and see about the others, but since i have to rip the whole motor appart i will look into it.

Thx for the suggestion.

I am in your situation as well. I am going to go with the T-28 since it would be the cheapest out of all them, and you won't need an install kit. AGPturbo.com has great prices on them.
