On my 91 Talon TSI im going to upgrade the turbo. Alot of people in here are running the 16G. I can afford the ported 20G and like the idea of a external wastegate setup and a BIG turbo. Will the 20Gs mid to upper power more than make up for the turbo lag it probally produces,, I will keep building this car til its running 11s, but i want it to run good now too! also what else gets changed for it to fit???

I went from a no port no clip 16G to a BR20g. the lag difference is hardly noticeable. full boost is maybe 100 rpm slower. but the top end power is VERY noticeable.
I conceder my 16g purchase a waste of time and money.

I really loved my 16G. Ran a 12.4@110 on race gas and 23psi with her. Full boost around 3100rpms in 3rd and pulled very well. I switched to a internally gated TD06 20G and was blown away by the difference. Full boost by 3400rpm in 3rd and pulls much harder, but is also a much smoother power delivery. Had time to tune her for one day due to a dead alternator and battery among other miscellaneous repairs that took a couple weeks to iron out (2 bad alternators part of that), and still turned a 12.3@112 on pump gas at 21psi on the last day of open track. One of the best purchases I have made for the car.

you need to be thinking about an afc or the gm maf translator, and injectors, as well to get decent power out of either

Actually i dont thin kthe 20g is worth it. THe lag is just much to bad to even consider upgrading from a 16g. I dont even understand why people do this upgrade anyway. If you want to get a real upgrade where the power will be worth the extra lag then just get a garret straight T4, 60-1, 1.06 w/stage 5 wheel and youll be set:rolleyes:

This quote is perfectly said. I totally agree with everything. Anyone who says the lag is too bad with the 20g either doesn't own one, had insufficient supporting mods, or didn't tune the car correctly.

You only gain .1 on the 1/4 mile with the 20G over teh 16G. I just bought a 16G. The main reason i chose it over the 20G was price i got my new 16G for 524 and a 20G is close to 1 grand. just my thoughts.

Oh you do really.. And thats the same for anyone else right... Um..no... So you are basically saying the difference is .1 from 16g to 20g... Right.. that because everyone has your set up.

I was just quoting what some one else posted. I have seen many 20G's in the 11's and only a couple of 16G's in the 11's. I know the 20G is alot stronger then a 16G i was just asking is that all the he was able to get out of it on his set up. My only reason for going for a 16G was the price. It better suited my goals. I only want to be in the 12's no faster.

Its nice to go faster but i don't like the idea of breaking drive train parts and i still want the car to be street legal and daily driven.

If your looking to run high 12s your in danger of breaking parts anyway. I had a 14sec. 1G eclipse and exploded a transfer case at the track. It can happen to anyone at any time. There is no E.T. that symbolizes a danger zone for destroying your driveline....

I too am got my eyes set on a 20G over the 16G after I get all the supporting mods but... would it still be worth it if my car will just be an ultimate daily driven street car. My ultimate goal would be just to have a poor mans ferarri. Any thoughts?

You'll break stuff if you try to launch too hard. Be nice and slip the clutch and the drivetrain will hold up. Personally, on my new AWD I'm modding the drivetrain now while I'm still on the 14b with stock exhaust, so when it's time for a turbo, I'm gonna go big. I regretted not going big when I built up my Laser. It was too easy to find the limits of that setup. Go for the 20G!
