now, before i get made fun of, i know the easy answer. FMIC. but with my setup, im getting a BIG16G. my freind with a supra GAVE me his sidemount with about 90K miles on it. will that be enough for the big16g. i know that a FMIC is better, but do i NEED a fmic with a 16g? and also, is 90k miles going to hurt the SMIC?

thanks guys !!! dont know what i'd do without yall !!

STOCK sidemount has been into the 11's. So you don't NEED anything. The bigger the intercooler, the cooler the intake air into the motor. A FMIC will alllow you to run less knock on high boost.

Another thing to consider: are you rich? If so, it's a no-brainer, get the FMIC. If you need to be on a budget, then use the free supra SMIC that you have. It will do a very decent job with your big 16g. I have the supra SMIC on my car, it does a very good job. I also wrote the VFAQ for the 2g Supra SMIC install. It's pretty easy.

well thanks for all the feedback, but also, no im not rich (LOL) . with my budget now i MIGHT be able to fit in a FMIC, but i have a sidemount, if that was ganna be enough, then i'd spend my extra money on a downpipe or fuelpump. you get what im saying now?

also what is the url for your smic install?

thanks

If you have money for a FMIC but a SMIC will suffice, why not use that 700-800 bucks for other upgrades like a ported head if everything else it done? That would also be enough for a whole fuel set-up, injectors, pump...

Good Luck

if ya got it for free do it first... then when you feel the smic is the limiting factor or you just want the pimpness of the fmic change it.

A supra smic will deff help specially if you clean it out etc. and will give you less pressure drop than an fmic.

Hit the nail on the head. It works very well, you may find out that it's much better than you thought.

just wondering, why is the aftermarket uicp a must?

Because the stocker is rubber and expands which causes a few psi of pressure drop which makes your turbo work harder for the same boost which makes more heat which makes less power.

You are also saddled with the SMALL throttle body elbow that kills flow.

[Edit] Damn I just realized you were talking about the supra side mount and I just wasted my time replying. Sigh...

I can only comment on the Brode pipe, since that is what I used. However, you will be using flexible rubber elbows, so the fitment probably won't be an issue. The pipe diameter does matter though. If you get a pipe that is smaller or larger, you will have to compensate when attaching it to the supra elbows.

If I remember correctly the Brode UICP is 2.25". I don't remember his website but his name is Dave Brode, search around and you'll find it.

The reason you need to ditch the stock UICP and run a aftermarket hard pipe is you need to attach the supra rubber elbow coming out of the IC to a hard pipe so you can clamp it down. The stock UICP is rediculously small and you should have that mod done way before an IC upgrade anyway.
