Dump Tube or Remove cat?

If I race at the track only, wouldn't it be cost effective to simply remove my catalytic converter? I would avoid the cops with the loud dump tube. Also, is removing the cat a simple upgrade that will improve performance?

how would u avoid cops with a loud dumptube, the if ure talkin about an o2 dump, that is very loud and will atract cops attention. u will gain alot of performance by removing that cat, but u will need a straight pipe to replace it, and u will not pass emisions. if u plan to race and street. y not just get a exasute cutout valve?

Yea i was talking about an o2 dump tube. Emmisions is for us lucky people that live in California

Yea i have been trying to inquire about an electric exhaust thingamajigger. But no one will reply on how to do it.

I guess I will just run an open down pipe removing the cat when I am racing at the track, and just replace the cat when im on the street. Actually I dont have a cat..I have a straight pipe

I say remove the cat and put a dumptube on but I live in MN where we junked emissions testing a few years ago. Dump tubes are not loud unless you are at WOT but if you are street racing... they will hear you from blocks away at WOT. Also, a o2 dump is relatively hidden under the turbo (on my car) and the heat shield and hard for a cop to see. If a cop thought you had an illegal exhaust and sees that you have no cat... you may be in one he11 of a fine. Just my opinion.

fyi, i passed nj emmissions about 3 years ago with a test pipe on.

I didn't go through state inspection, was too afraid they would look under the car. I just went to a local garage and had the sniffer done.
