HEY GUYS QUICK QUESTION, IVE HEARD RUMORS THAT REMOVING THE DUMP LINE THAT RUNS FROM THE BOV BACK TO THE TURBO IS A GOOD IDEA, AND NOT ONLY AIDS SLIGHTLY IN PERFORMANCE BUT SOUNDS LOUDER THAN MOST AFTERMARKET BOV'S. IS THEIR ANY TRUTH TO THIS AND WHAT ARE THE DRAWBACKS ? , ANY INPUT IS APPRECIATED. :dsm:

LOL man its too bad they dont make web programs that have ai to identify newbie posts and put them in their place... poor moderators

Even though they may be new, and this question has been answered a thousand times before, AND its in all CAPS, we should still try to give him a decent answer...

Removing the dump tube is usually a bad idea as mentioned above. It may cause a bad idle and over all bad running DSM. Another name for removing it is called venting to the atmosphere. If you want a louder BOV, you will have to purchase a aftermarket one that vents back to the intake like it does now. Also purchasing a 3" intake may increase the sound as long as you have a K+N filter with a cut or totally removed aircan.

Thats enough drawbacks for me not to do it to my car:thumb:

K, now for the question. You should not vent a stock BOV (ESPECIALLY a 2G). 2G BOV's are crap and leak at 12psi, while 1G's are better and can be crushed to hold more boost, they still should not be vented. If you do want to vent to the atmosphere, you need to buy an aftermarket BOV such as an HKS Super Sequential (what Ill be running, has the push/pull valve design and will not leak) which Id most recommend for venting, Turbo XS RFL, or GReddy Type-S (those 3 prolly the most popular). You CAN vent these, but your outcome will differ from car to car. You will most certainly run a little rich, which causes no immediate concern, just a small blow in gas milage. You may see an idle flux and/or die every once in a while at a stop, but that all depends and is a fairly rare occurance.

The least you can do is try it. Like I said, buy an aftermarket valve, vent it, check and observe the conditions/behavior of your car. If its ok, continue if youd like. If not, simply recirculate it using a recirc kit for that valve (HKS), or use the stock hose (Type-S). The Turbo XS RFL cannot be recirculated (though the Turbo XS H34 can).
