ok, i want to get a hks ssqv mainly because no other bov sounds like it. i want to do the right thing and have it recirculating, but ive read two different things about how it sounds. some people say it is just as loud as the factory bov, and others say that it is almost totally quiet. would someone who has one installed and recirculating please tell me which i can expect? thanks

hmm.. ANY recirculated bov wont be as loud as being one being vented to the atmopshere.. i can't tell you how it sounds recirculated cause mine is vented to the atmosphere at the moment.. but from wat i heard/read.. the hks ssqv recirculated is much more quiet then other bovs recirculated.. when you say "some people say it is just as loud as the factory bov, and others say that it is almost totally quiet".. goes hand in hand considering factory bov IS quiet to begin with..

if your looking to get the hks ssqv for its unique sound.. thats not going to be a factor considering ur going to recirculate and all that unique sound will be lost..

good luck

people who say its loud recirc'd are talking out of their asses (aka, just guessing). the sound insert is taken out when the recirc piece is put on the BOV. all you hear is the familiar HKS flutter and some very silent woosh sounds. i prefer to vent mine unless i am racing at the track.

Just wondering why do we run rich if venting to the atmosphere seeing as the MAS is before the return tube on our intake?? Does the ECU see all the pressure produced by the turbo and expects that vented pressure back and runs rich becasue it's providing the fuel that it believes equalizes that pressure and since it's not getting that pressure back more fuel/less pressure (air)?? Since I am already venting to the atmosphere with an APEX BOV will I see no change if I also change to the HKS?? (switching to new BOV because the apex seems to be giving a lot of surge when I try to maintain a 4000rpm in any gear, so cruising at 90-100 or higher at 4000rpm or above the car bucks like pressure isn't getting out or the bov ins't regulating that pressure enough, or as I have been told the car is running to rich--not sure why that would cause that though so any insite would be great....)

i have it recirculated...its pretty loud recirc., granted not as loud as vented but still a hell of a lot better than stock...i used to vent mine but got tired of getting 70mpg less...so its not ear piercing as like vented since the insert is gone and its more of an air w/ fluttering sound so under 10 psi it will flutter...but when i ran it at 14psi and it makes a cool psshh/samurai sword clashing type thing....anyway, i got it for the design (push/pull) and its great...pz

I also have it recirc-ed. Mine sounds the same as onegees. The sounds is a little louder at 18-20psi but nowhere near as loud as venting.

isnt there also a way that you can recirc. with the insert fin still inside by fabricating your own recirc. piece? i seem to remeber seeing a link for it somewhere where a guy made it out of some pvc pipe. anyone heard of this or tried it? what would the results be like with that setup? thanks for all the help

i have it vented and love it. ill take the hit on 70 miles less or so. gotta love the sound. i bought it for the sound and because my greddy had a whole in the diaphram, causing it to leak at idle. so to eliminate the leak at idle i went with the hks. wouldnt have it anyother way. as for the recirc kit. i dont plan on it and i also hear it kills the sound.

yup.. there WAS a link. i tried to look for it not htat long ago and it seemed liket he site was down.. so i dont know..

site is gone...but me and my friend did it to his using the HKS parts (recirc. piece and original fin) ...waste of a fin..the damn thing is even QUIETER...wasted a good 2 hours trying to grind the recir. piece and the fin down..finally decided to cut the fins housing off...also if u decide to do it, cut the under middle side of the fin as it pushes on the bov causing it to leak...

NOT worth it..if its a better sound ur going for with that "mod", wont work and it will do exact opposite..pz

my friends vented SSQ on an entirely stock car besides that is incredibly loud and sounds very very nice

I have a HKS SSQV...and have been venting it to the atmosphere for roughly 6 or 8 months now. I recommend for you to recirculate it...the noise should be less of a priority as to the performance of your engine and your car in general. Right now, I am in the process of fixing my intake and making a recirc fitment...so i can treat my engine right...

Plus, even if you don't experience it in the beginning...your car will spit out some black smoke eventually...due to running a rich a/f mixture. Cause mine is...sadly.

Be easy, and good luck in your decisions.
