I recentlt got an apex'i avc-r, i was messin around with all the settings and i cant seem to understand duty. i set the boost in bars, but what is duty? i cant seem to get the boost where i want it. can anybody help me with the avc-r ?

also, i was reading my owner manual, and it says the timing belt should be changed at 50k miles. im right at 45K and it is starting to squek. what does that mean? should i go ahead and get that replaced, i know how important that is :( . and when i do get it replaced should i pay the shop 300 bucks to do it, or is it someting i could do myself withbasic tools?

remember guys, i'm still learning all this DSM stuff !! im still a newb !

let me know something PLEASE !!:dsm:

if you have a shop thats willing to do a timing belt change for 300 bucks Id definitely have them do it, so long as they know what there doing..

As for the AVC-R.. alot of people on here will tell you to just sell it and buy some other type of boost controller. The AVC-R is to complex for its own good. :)

The AVC-R isn't that hard to use. You just gotta mess with it to get used to it is all. Now to set the duty here's what you do. Set the boost to whatever you want to run, let's say for instance 1.6 bar. Go drive, get on it a couple times and watch your boost on the AVC-R to see what it actually hits. Let's say you hit 1.5 bar of boost, so you go and turn the duty up and try again. Now you drive more and hit 1.65 bar, go turn the duty back down just a little bit. It's to make up for differences in different cars. Take a MBC for instance, say you put it in your car and set it to 17psi, then take it and put it in someone else's car and it runs a different amount of boost, so they have to go and adjust it to 17psi on their car. Same idea there but it's built in to the boost controller. I read all about that somewhere but I really can not remember where, and yes I have an AVC-R and love it!

thanks. ill try that, but i cant seem to understand how to read the boost from the avc-r .. when i put the monitor on, the guage max's at 1 bar, so how do i know if its goin over?

help me out

There is a screen where you can adjust how high the boost gauge goes on the AVC-R. It reads up to 3 bars. I do not remember exactly which option you pick to get to that screen because I have not really messed with one lately (been too lazy to put my AVC-R into my new GSX). If you read in the user's manual it should tell you how to do that.

I also have an AVC-R and have been fairly happy with it thus far. I have figured out how to tune it correctly as well....however, one problem. The RPMs sensor has been acting very strangely...when I try to monitor RPMs, they read correct for a bit, then spike very quickly up to a high RPM for a moment, then drop down to actual.
I have checked the settings, and have set the cylinders to "2" (not 4 as is a common mistake), and also set the throttle position sensor correctly This stinks, because I got the darn thing to dynamically build boost, as hitting hi psi early in a race is fatal with my FWD. :(

The boost reads in kilogram per square centimeter not in bar. Go to main section on your avc-r then select ect. followed by graph scale then highlight where it say 1.0 and bump it up to 3.0. That should allow you to monitor up to 3.0. If you wanna know how to read kilogram per square centimeter in psi just go to this website www.convert-me.com select pressure and under psi type in what boost you want and click convert and it will tell you what it is in kilogram per square centimeter. You can always call Apexi their technical support is really good.
