my friend has an old shelby with garret t3 on it. Im just curious as to how these turbos are compared to a t25 or a 14b. Also as he was leaving he gunned it and once his car got to higher rpms it almost sounded like a machine gun type of fluttering coming from his exhaust instead of a constant flow of air. Is this normal, he has a catback. thanks

The fluttering does not sound good. That sounds like he is hitting the surge limit of the turbo or else the BOV of leaking.

A T3 is just a family of turbos. The amount of power and the spool of them depends on the wheels and housings that are on the turbo. The turbo could be smaller or larger than a 14B chances are that it is bigger then a T25 just because a T25 is in the T2 family.

so what can i do to stop this fluttering. He told me he doesnt have a BOV on his car.

With no BOV the air isn't being vented when the throttle plate closes (every shift). The air is then being forced back into the compressor blades and it makes a fluttering noise. It is very hard on the turbo.
hmm, ill keep that in mind but i think that it was making the fluttering when he still had his foot on the gas, just inn the higher rpms though

A misfire should throw the CEL plus there probably would have been a noticeable power decrease, but ill keep that in mind too. :D
