Shipping an Optima Battery

I was surprised that I couldn't find anything when I searched on here, nor a Google search.

Anyway, I bought an Optima battery (Red Top, 800 cca's) when I thought I needed a battery. Turned out, it was a bad, 6-month old alternator. I replaced the alternator and used the original battery (also fairly new) and everything works fine.

So, the battery had only two days on it but I couldn't return it. The original battery fits perfect in the tray/box and I didn't want to waste the $160+ that I spent on the Optima.

I sold it on eBay for $101 including shipping, but I can't find a carrier for it. Any ideas?

Doing to mean shipping carriers? If so, use the same carrier the store used when it came to you and the last time I checked UPS and FEDEx do ship out batteries.

Yeah, I mean shipping carrier. I'm kinda confused, you want me to try to use Autozone's semi truck?

Oh, I thought you ordered it from an online store and it was shipped to your door step. But otherwise, the last time I checked UPS and FedEx will not restrict shipping battery so you can ship with either carriers.

I know you cannot ship batteries airmail because of the hazard of the acid, but this shouldn't apply to ground shipments.

You're supposed to let the shipper know if there's a flammable / hazardous material in the box you're shipping, but have you ever thought of packing it well in an insulated box and telling them it's a stack of phone books?

Aren't Optimas sealed?

Try Greyhound.

USPS will be your cheapest option because of the weight of that thing. It is sealed so you don't really have to tell them whats actually in the box, but you can if you want. They will ask.

Ok, thanks a lot guys. I am going to try either USPS or DHL and declare that this is a sealed unit.
