It is time for me to find the right core for my FMIC. I plan to make the end tanks myself with some help from a few friends. I was thinking of the Large Griffin top to bottom flow from road race. But now I'm not sure after looking at http://www.bellintercoolers.com/index.asp. Now I'm thinking how thick can I go? These guys have up to 6 inch thick cores. I plan to remove the condensor. So how thick do you think I can go on 1st Gen?

I would just ask the guys at RRE about that one, they should be able to tell you just how big of an intercooler you can fit in the front of a 1g.

I'm thinking of the 3.5x24x8 top to bottom flow this should be fine for my 60 trim.

if it isn't you can always install an intercooler sprayer to cool down the air charge.

too thick of a core will reduce air flow to the radiator so sprayer won't help much if you're overheating.

And too thick won't let air flow through the core, but 3.5" will be OK. FYI there's a VFAQ.com that shows how to hook up a dash mounted switch that will turn on both fans. It's cheap and easy. That way you can be sitting at a stoplight in summer and keep the engine cool. Plus the heat from the radiator won't warm up the intercooler. If the link for the 1G install is broken I'll try to describe it as best as I can.

I do not really want a side to side flow. I would rather have a top to bottom flow.

Less pressure loss on a top to bottom, but better cooling on a side to side. Neither difference is huge, but the main reason I went with top to bottom was the ease of routing the pipes and they are also shorter. My core is 24x6(11 with tanks)x3.5 Taller than 11" and you will be sticking out of the bottom of the bumper cover. At 11" I had to really work to get it pretty much flush (one benefit of side to side is cuz it's shorter top to bottom). The opening in the bumper cover (92-94) is less than 6" anyway. I got my kit from DDP and it is great.

I was refering to the Spearco 2-216 core like what indy uses. I wasn't saying particurarly to buy theirs. Just buy it from spearco and have them weld the end tanks you want on they will do any design you want. That's what i ordered. I want end to end as well not top to bottom.

I would rather have as many rows in the core exposed to air flow as possible. I don't really want to change the bumper skins or hack the stock one. Plus I don't want the lower intercooler pipe within a few inches of my turbo the garrets get pretty hot.

And Ken I didn't not forget about that head I just been really busy. I will get it out to you soon. I think my wife may be going to indy this weekend if not I will ship it to you.
