cam gears cover

It's mainly there for protection. It helps prohibit foreign objects such as nuts, blts, tools, and water buffalo out of your timing belt. A lot of people remove it simply because it looks cooler, but it also retain less heat with the cover off so chances are you can help prevent pre-mature dry rot on the T-belt from heat buildup. But the choice is yours grasshopper...

Regards,

I had those same thoughts as to removing the cover.

One other I had was about contamination. What effects will oil, dirt and water have on the belts lifespan??

it does look way cooler like that tho. Especially with that trick CNC machined piece at RRE!! Gonna get me some o that lovin!!

i just painted the valve cover and a lot of the engine bay is now colored so i think it looks a lot better w/o the cover, so i think i will leave it off and see what happens.
anyway i have to do some belt adjustments due to squeaking so it will be off anyway.
thanks

Just make sure to keep all tools & shop rags away from the spinning cam gears. I know this sounds obvious... but I've seen the results.

And watch out with a hooded sweatshirt OMG I've never seen that and I never want to hear about it.

I see this topic discussed from time to time in various places. I was thinking that someone should fabricate a clear polycarbonate one. That way you can still see those shiny aftermarket cam gears while not getting debris or body parts caught in the belt.

that is a great idea with the clears
the obvious advise is well appreciated and thanks for caring ;)
i just put it back on because i wanted to see the entire paint job all together (i painted the cover as well).

when the aftermarket cams get in there it is definately off but for now with the not so flashy stockers the cover will remain until someone tells me how bad a$$ it looks with it off.
