I have neve really got a stait answer on this.

we all know the deal about cams, and almost eveyone can agree that on our cars, cams help get more power out of a good set up, that is, they are only truly worth it when you have upgraded turbo and what not....

But that is not what this is aobut... the idle is what it is about.
I have heard people say the 272s give a bad idle and what not? What does this mean. I understand that the idle will sound lopey and sputtery but i have never heard of any real reason not to go with 272/272. i mean its like if some one was decidig wether or not to have a 2" cat back or a 3".... and some one said the 3" is louder. So what?!! unless my car will stall if i put 272/272 what should i car how it idles? i dont like to keep the car idling much! i want to drive, and at a stoplite people will fear the gug gug gug gug that is rumbling next to them.

Mainly it's the lumpiness and whether it stalls out of not. Also if you have emmissions a 264 intake cam is your friend.

yeah that is the thing, buy the time i get cams, i will be running nothing except a muffler from the turbo back, are you talking about emissions equipment? or the test? hmm,

also the 272 umbe is the duration right? how come crowers race cams are only up in the 240s? meaby its a different number. Inceasing the idle speed should stop the stalling?

going from a 264 to a 272 will also change the spool of the turbo. There are reasons for going with each setup which is why they make both? some setups are better off with 272s, some with 264s, some with the 264/272 combo

is 272/272 workable for a street car, i know this probly belongs some where else.

does it change the spool for the worse? if i coudl go back in time, i would tell mitsu to make variable cam profiles like vvt-i

idle is all i wanted to know, and i think i go tmy answer, so i should expect some stalling? or will it just sputter a bit?

the 272 intake will make your idle rough, but like you said you can adjust idle speed to correct that if you don't mind your car idling at 1300-1750. the 272 exhaust will make for a better spool up time because it keep the exhaust valves opened for a longer amount of time. if you plan on installing these cams, remember that you need stiff aftermarket valve springs aswell.

also big cams are gonna change your power band range,so with the 272's you'll be making most of your power (guessing) between 4500-8500. with bigger cams you almost always lose lowend power, keep that in mind.

nice, that clears things up abit, the crower spring and retainer kit should fit the bill too, man itll be like a 1000 buck upgrade when i do it, between springs, cams, gears, probly a new gasket and what not... how does one reset the redline?

does the apexi rev/speed limiter do that and i have an automatic so will it jsut be a mater of settign it back to 8000 and letting everything else work itself out?

You guys are big babbies if you think the 272 idle is poor. I had mine idling like a lumpy stock. I think the biggest issue with idle is what type of vaccum you will get at idle. My web streets at crappy vaccum under 12. But the 272s were closer to 15 which is a signifigant difference.

As for choosing the right cam for you. You need to take a look at what type of powerband your turbo will give you and move from there. Anything bigger than a 20g could benefit from apair of 272s but with a smaller turbo 264I 272E would work out well.

As for raising the revlimiter you need to go with a TMO or similar unit.

:dsm: I have HKS 272/272 cams and I love the lopy idle it makes. People are to used to luxury stuff. You either have a regular car with few mods or you build a race car. If you build power you have to get used to it. Havent you heard big cams on old hot rods, same goes for us.
You have to match lift/duration to what uses you want and can handle, My cams lope a nice idle and tuned right, My thortle response is so fast with these cams its crazy.

yeah dude, thats what im talking about, im no baby, i want the race car i cant wait to have it all together. so an L1R? that should benefit form cams. it is an expensive proposition what will all the parts nessesary to instal cams properly, but yeah im deffinaly going with 272s. Tell me aobut your set up? do you have just cams and adj. sprokets? or spings and what not?
