What's it really spool at?

ojai,
I want to get a hrc super 20g. It seems like the best turbo out of the green and the mutts. It has to be a bolt on with a internal wastgate. But everybody says that this turbo dosent reach full boost untill around 4000k rpms. Well can someone tell me what it might reach say 18 or 20 psi in 1st gear, second gear, third, fourth, and fifth. I what to no each gear. thanks:D

I have the S20G and the turbo will spool between 3100-4000k depending on your mods. In 1st & 2nd you will fly through the RPM's so fast you will only get up to 15 psi and 17-18 psi in 2nd. It also depends which internal wastegate you get, either the 10psi or 15psi wastegate and the boost controller you have. I have the Super AVCR boost controller and 10psi wastegate. In 1st & 2nd gear, I set the boost on gear based boost so 1st and 2nd would reach up to 19-20psi. In 3rd gear, where all my power is unleashed, you can get up to 20-23 psi on pump, given you have enough fuel and supporting mods such as clutch, FMIC, and fuel computer and injectors. 4th gear, I dont push too much. My car is set up for street racing (3rd gear) and never tried a full blast in fourth. but you can do some damage if your car is not tuned in 4th or 5th gear. Overall, Im happy with the turbo and its got alot of potential. The top end on the S20G is CRAZY! Most other DSM'ers do have their own opinion about this turbo.

Actually the HRC S20G has run 9's. Look at what they use on their full race Neon and Eclipse. And just because I'm defending it deosn't mean I'm partial to it. I honestly don't have a favorite. But from my experiences with T25, T28, soon to be Big28, small and big 16G, FP turboes, and HRC turboes; the HRC turboes have perform the best at the track on a street car. In order to get a 16G to a low 12 high 11's you have to have the setup tuned perfectly.

According to Hahn, their 9 second Eclipse equipped with the "standard" Super 20G has 508 hp to the wheels and a daily driver. Of course thats with a fully built bottom end. But Im also a fan of other turbo's as well. Like.........The Greeen Turbo:D , but may be a bit toooo BIG for street use

This has been hashed to death on the digest. When someone says XX turbo spools by YY RPMS, you must qualify that statement. The "full boost RPM" has a lot to do with what gear you are in. I think the consensus finally was to get going down the road at 2000 RPM in fifth gear. Put your right foot to the floor and see what the tach reads when ZZ boost level is hit. This is the only way to keep things consistent so that people can compare the spool rate of different turbos.

But, as others have already mentioned, this information is only partially valuable because turbo response has a lot to do with what mods you are running, exhaust, cat or no catcon, port work, cams, fuel, etc., etc.

Depending on the application and what your doing, according to what FP said.....(I think it was FP) the 20G is small for track, compared to what other pro's use. The 20G is big on the streets. Therefore, the Green Turbo being bigger than the 20G, would be a monster turbo on the streets, and good for track use. Both turbo's are big, but if your going full blown race, id get the bigger Green or Red turbo. For street set up, 20G works good for me. Most street races are from 1st-3rd only and will not likely reached 4th, unless your racing on the freeway which is suicide.

From research it looks like thye have kinda bad spool, And the green internal wg gets bad boost spikes. Ive been looking at the mutts and it looks good (eta32)440whp. I havent heard of any real bad things about it except that it hasnt been really proven. Is there anybody on this site that can give some input on this turbo. And when does this turbo spool? Ive heard it spools liike a big16 is this true? thanks

Ok forget the last post.I have a different question. Im going to go with the super 20g. I no it comes with all the install stuff but im going to get there manifold because of the different fitting of the turbo(square) and the manifold (round). If you look at the cost it comes out about the same and less hassle in install.
Porting stock manifold=80buxs
Porting o2 housing= buxs
and since the o2 eliminater comes with the kit the price is worth it i think. But my real question is there ANYTHING else I should order with the turbo to make things easier and that would work better. Thanks!
