Most Cost-Effective Way To 250HP????

Hi, I recently bought a 91 GSX, and have been doing some research. I'm going to need to replace the Engine, Transmission, and Some minor belts etc. I know that I"m going to buy a new engine, transmission, exhaust, intake, boost controller, boost gauge, iridium spark plugs (easy hp), and give it a new paint job and most likely a body kit seeing as its a little beaten, with a nice system, but I'm not looking to spend too incredibly much. Does anyone have good suggestions on what type of each part (buschar, greddy, k&n, etc.) would give me the best performance and also a fair price, and where to get it at??? I know of MachV.com and already have a list of everything from there, but I'm looking for suggestions etc. After all this I'm gonna do brakes, rims, strut bar, springs, shocks, sway bar, and other low price parts to up the performance. I'm not huge into racing or having monster horsepower, so please you dont need to respond and tell me a giant turbo or anything, but I would be interested in a new turbo if I could get it for around 600, larger or not. 16g winter special...for 699 with 2g install kit...must be less without it...so theres a good turbo for you. How much money do you have bro...you don't want to put to much money into it yet your buying a new engine, tranny, a system and a kit...damn hook me up with some funds
 
250 on a 1G? Boost controller and intake filter, getting rid of the air can. You can even put a turbo back exhaust for more.

Woop.

Oh, and irdium plugs are wasting your money. Just get normal, properly gapped NGK's. I love how people think that wires and spark plugs make a noticeable difference with their stock ignition system.

Well said, didn't someone run a 12 second 1/4 mile with exhaust, boost controller and free mods or something like that?
 
LOL, dont got that much money, this is about a 2 year project, I"m thinking around 7k for all of it combined, but I'll spend more then that after the cosmetics part (mak'n er perdy). But first I'm getting the Engine and Transmission, then doing all the mods etc. I should be going to DCTC for mechanics next fall so I can hopefully do most of the installation myself, save some bucks. you definately dont need an upgraded turbo for under 300hp. If you have the stocker off, get it and a 95+ manifold/O2 sensor housing ported. This will allow you to run a nice big exhaust without boost creep.

Cut your aircan a bit, get an upper IC pipe from Dave Brodie or RoadRace Engineering. Get a K&N or similar type of filter. Get or make a manual boost controller. Have a local shop do you up a simple 2.5" cat back exhaust with a good free flowing muffler.

Without doing the porting(won't need it unless you do a full exhaust) you should be able to do this for under $500.

Oh and there are some free mods as well, just look in the recipe as stated above.

As well, things like changing ALL your fluids, cleaning your intercooler, making sure all your hoses are not cracked/loose, you have a good ground, and your belts are good.

Of course there are other parts availiable, but these are lower cost parts that are good quality. Dave Brodie was very helpful, me being Canadian it is a PITA to get parts up here.

I'm only gonna upgrade the turbo if it is in bad or okay condition, I dont want to have to do it later. I just want a daily driver that can kick some american/boasty ass when need be. I wouldn't get a new engine or tranny if they could be easily fixed either, but I'm getting a Diagnostic done soon here to see whats not doing great. Thanks for all your help.

About how much HP do you think these mods would make on a 1991 GSX awd turbo????? Guesstimate-

- Buschur Racing 20G turbo
- HKS external wastegate
- A'PEXi Super AFC
- Buschur Racing 2.5" stainless downpipe
- Buschur Racing 2.5" cat
- Buschur Racing 2.5" stainless cat-back exhaust
- Evo oxygen sensor housing
- 550cc fuel injectors
- Modified Mass Airflow Sensor
- upgraded fuel pump

-Any Idea, this car was owned by Geoff Morgan @ MachV.com, but he sold it and I'm trying to find out who owns it so I can make the guy an offer and have the GSX of my dreams-
