This is my first post on this site and im doing it to help a friend. we have been having motor problems with his avenger(hole in the block) and we will just be replacing the motor and we were curious as to what has to be done to drop in the 4g63(is that the right code for the turbo motor?). what would have to be done to the harnesses, etc. thanks.

Major modification! I wouldn't even recommend trying it. You need all the wiring, ecu, engine-tranny, all parts associated with the engine-tranny, axles that fit, hoses... Yes it is a 4G63.

The procedure will essentially be the same as putting a 4g63 in a non turbo dsm. You are going to need the engine, transmission, ecu, wiring harness, intercooler piping, and intercooler. I think the engine mounts need to be moved also, but I am not positive. The axles that you have right now might not stand up to the test of more horsepower so changing those would also be on my list of things to do. I think the shifter linkage is not going to match up so you will probably need to get the one from an Eclipse. I would recommend getting all new gaskets and a clutch. If you are planning on buying a complete engine assembly from some place like www.ardperformance.com you might think about having enough money to purchase another turbo also. The one you will get will probably have a ton of end play. As far as wiring, the ecu and harness will be the only thing you need. The problem that you will have is that the wires will not be long enough so they might need to be extended, but that is what end connectors are for.

I forgot to mention that none of the piping from the intercooler is going to fit so you will need to fabricate that. You might as well go with a front mount. Buy a Griffen core from www.roadraceengineering.com and get the HKS endtanks that will fit. Then have a muffle shop make you some piping. I can't stress T-bolt clamps enough.

Is there something with the Avenger platform that makes the 4G63 swap easier?
I was planing on putting a Honda H23(non-vtec) motor with a modified 1st gen manifold and a 14b(with all the custom piping) into my 4th gen Accord, but Im wondering how hard would it be to fit a entire 4G63 into it? Sorry to de-rail the post like that

Avengers are 'quasi-dsms' as they share lots of the same hardware and chassis mount points (and chassis deminsions). Thats what makes this swap a 'doable' possiablity.

i figured the swap would be about as difficult as the 4g63 into a non turbo eclipse. when you refer to the wiring harness do you mean the one for the entire car, or just the engine harness? how well do the non turbo eclipse/talon/avenger motors hold up to boost? would the turbo manifold from the 4g63 bolt up to the non turbo motor? just asking to see if thats a better option if lots of fabrication must be done to drop the 4g63 in. keep the info coming....thanks.

thanks for this link:

but it seems that the guy who did that swap is one of the few who doesnt have his email listed.

All the wiring under the hood will not line up properly. You will need to extend the lines more than likely. If you want a 4g63. The turbo manifold will not bolt up to the 420a. The motor that is in there right now is not a bad engine. People are making well over 200 out of them with the hahn turbo kits. That is a pretty good improvement. The best thing for you to do would probably be to buy a new block and just rebuild it with forged internals and get a hahn turbo kit. It would probably save you some money.

http://www.armond30.com/adp/001.html This guy was entered in the ultimate street car challenge. He claims to be making 400 horsepower out of the 420a with the 20g. That is alot of power if you ask me.
