Just curious,
i picked up the turbo pretty cheap, its got a built in wategate and all (came off a VW). How much hp and how much boost is this thing gonan give me?

T3? Can you be anymore vauge? You may as well say, "how much power can I make with a turbo?" There are at least half a dozen T3 compressor wheels.

Identify what compressor wheel it has by popping the compressor cover off and measuring the inducer and exducer. Compare your results with the Turbonetics catalog. Until he does that I don't want to see a single other person posting anything in this thread, because until we know what compressor wheel it has, anything you say is going to be stupid and piss me off.

Woah! Hold on a second. If this turbo has an internal wastegate, then it's probably NOT a T3. If it came off a VW, any idea what kinda VW that was? Was it by any chance off of one of the new 1.8T motors? If it was, then you have a KKK K03. Essentially, if that's what you've got, then it won't really be of any use to you. That turbo spools INCREDIBLY low (On my GTi turbo, the K03/K04 hybrid I have builds peak torque at 1950 RPM!), but doesn't hold high boost very well, and will run out of steam very early. The Audi/VW 1.8T guys use chips that bleed off boost at high RPM's, and make 16.5 PSI peak. That combination of a long stroke, short bore, and that turbo at 16.5 PSI is goot for 270 ft/LBs (!) of torque, but only about 210 Horse. It is a nice turbo, you could probably make it work, but it wouldn't live very long, and it would be kinda strange to spool at 1500 RPMs and only hold it to 5 Grand.

Either that or you realy do have a T3, which is good for 500 HP, and the above ramblings don't really apply to anybody. Give or take. :D

Have fun,
Matt.:thumb:

How do you know its a T3? I don't think VW has ever used T3s in a factory application.

The biggest factory T3 used were used on the 2.3 Turbo fords with manual transmissions. They had .60 a/r compressors and .63 a/r turbine housings. You can probably get 350 hp out of it.

The factory T3 compressor wheel is too small to make 500 wheel hp on any car. Now if you are talking a hybrid T3 with a T04 compressor wheel thats a different story.

Seriously w/o knowing any info about the wheels in the turbo or the housings or AR's or the housings how do you expect us to answer question?
