I know this has been discussed plenty of times before, but I need more opinions. I am debating between the Profec B, and Apex AVC-R. So I want to hear everybodys like and dislikes of the two units. I can get the Profec for about $280 brand new, and I can get the AVC-R for $350 brand new. I just want different opinions. Damn descisions!

I had the AVC-r and it sucked. It was very hard to get setup etc so I ended up replacing it with a manual boost controller. The Profec will hold boost FANTASTIC under 22lbs but after that it’s a nightmare to get setup properly. So if you are going to do any big boost race gas pulls either of these will give you problems.

I have an AVCR and its fantastic. Most people don't know how to operate them to make the correct boost, it took me about 1 month to learn every feature on it. Thing holds 2.3 bar like a champ, same goes for 1.5-1.6 on pump. I would never use another boost controller, ever! :thumb:

I've got the Profec B on my GTI and I love it. You set the boost to where you want it and as for mine, it never did spike on me. Im fixing to take it off and put it on my Talon. But a buddy of mine that has a GST has the AVC-R and he loves his. He has major traction problems, so 1st gear is set to like 15lbs, and 2nd is around 20lbs, and then so on. Seems pretty nifty as long as you can get the hang of it.... But I here that the Profect-B will only double the amount of boost that you wastegate spring is set at. PLEASE corect me if Im wrong on that, but I remember seeing that somewhere.

The Profec B is a relative EBC. That it is to say its boost control range is relative to the wastegate actuator spring. For stock DSM wastegate actuators, ~22lbs is as high is it will control reliably. All you need to do to raise it higher, is get a stiffer actuator spring. This however, will also raise the minimum boost you can run, for the same reason the Profec B is limited to 22 for stock spring rates.

neither...go manual!
the greddy profec-e01 is awesome...you can controll your e-manage with out a labtop plus you get a electronic boost contoller with it...but if you do not have an emanage, its wont be worth
it($565 bones)...

and if your planning on getting an emanage and the e-01, your getting high in money and are approaching the price of a full stand alone, so you might as well just wait a bit and save for a few more weeks/months

So what is the right way to use a AVC-R? I have used both of them and from my experiences the profec be was the better of the two. Just for the simple fact it didn't spike or the boost didn't drop off. just my .02

Since you are FWD the boost by gear on the AVCR would be nice to cutt out wheelhop and spin. But then again the greddy has the remote that you can buy.

the avcr is only as complicated as you make it. if you just want a basic EBC setup you just set the boost where you want it and take a few runs down the street in the car to tweek the duty cycle to get the boost just right. not hard at all. but that's not why you pay all that money for it. you can still tune out any boost spike when the turbo spools up at first (which it will). like he said you can tune the boost for each gear (and you don't have to hit a button on the steering wheel everytime.) it also has an optional button you can hook up. then you can set a "scramble" mode. when you hit that button it runs whatever boost you set it at for however long you want. plus it also serves as a peak hold boost gauge. i found mine used for $300 shipped. i was gonna buy a profec b new, but it would have cost a little more than that.
