whistling turbo?

When i slowly let off the turbo, when it reaches 0psi I hear a faint whistle.
Is this a leak?
Is this a difficult problem to fix?:dsm:
 
no it's not spooling up
it's when it's decreases from low boost down to 0, thats' when it whistles
 
what type of bov do you have? my greddy whistles very faintly when i'm keeping i at 0 psi. My stocker did that too.
 
My friends 2g does that with a stock 1g bov. he has a dejon tool 2.5 intake and it whistles all the time when he let off the gas lightly. If your car isn't running right that may be a different story, but if it is running how it should be that sound is normal its just your bov.
 
Are you running open DP? My Turbo sounds like a supercharger for a few seconds because it just whistles on down even when i'm sitting at idle after faint acceleration.
 
well, it may be common, but i don't think it's normal.
it sounds like maybe my stock bov isn't getting rid of all the boost, there has to be a leak or something.:cry:

Still waiting on this answer. If it is a 1G, then it is completely normal. I finally replaced mine with a TurboXS because the whistle would drive me crazy.

My TurboXS RBV-34 does it ALL THE TIME. Bout to go back to a 1g BOV.
 
Directed at me? Have leak tested. Only solution I see is to weld the fugger together.
 
? that doesn't make any sense to me ^

the 'whistling' is probably jsut from the tiny pressure wave coming back from the throttle plate. You don't have enough of a pressure differential to open the bov but you are still closing the throttle plate quickly. the whistle, ping, zing whatever you want to call it is probably the pressure wave hitting the turbo.

Wow.. I don't know if you have done all the things I had to do in order to make mine work great, but you may want to try the following.

First, sand the hell out of the piston until it slides in and out of the sleeve without getting stuck. This took around an hour or so with some fine grit. Make sure you sand up and down and not across.

Second, contact Turbo XS and let them know that your spring is too weak. They will send you the race spring for free, or a small fee. It's the one that is in the RFL. They are a great company, and take care of their people.

Finally, per their advice, add a couple of spacers (I have 4) to help with any fluttering you may experience.

This is normal. I have the 1G BOV on my 97 GS-T and when the RPM's start to fall to around 2K it starts to make a screeching / pinging sound.

When I first put on the 1G it annoyed the hell out of me, and I thought I had a leak, or installed the BOV wrong. So I installed the stock on, and the sound was gone. Reinstalled the 1G BOV and the sound was back. If you do a search, you will see there are several posts about this, and people asking the same question.

I beleive the responses that I got back, were that it had to do with the valve not closing all the way at the low RPM's and the air was whistling through the opening. Kinda like when you have a door slightly open or a window slightly open in your house, and a gust of wind comes through, you hear that whistling sound.
