Hey, I'm trying to get the guys at the local exhaust place to put in a stainless catrback for me. He said that can't bend stainless here at the shop. He said if it's straight, then they can do it.

My question is; will a straight catback work in an AWD? Should it go over or under the axle? Who has one and do you have a pic I could give to them?

You'll have a hard time getting a catback to fit without some bends on a 1gb. It has to cross over to the passenger side in order for there to be room for the muffler because the gas tank is in the way. That alone usually adds two bends. Also, you'll want it to go under the rear control arms.

You're probably better off finding one used or buying a new one. Most muffler shops can't do mandrel bends, so you'll decrease the diameter of whatever piping you install if you go the muffler/pressbent route.

RRE has some pictures of building a 3" exhaust on a 1g: http://www.roadraceengineering.com/eclipsetech/1gawddiyexhaustpics.htm

Hope this helps.

You have to bend somewhat. Either to the passenger side and then back, to the drivers side and back (no muffler) or under the gas tank (bad idea!). You could buy a 180 degree bend online and have them cut and use that. it should be plenty.

do what I did, Buy it at HIDtuning. I got mine for less that $550 shipped and it is a turboback 1 peice the way i wanted it to be (at the time)

Don't buy at HID Tuning. They just scanned me with $670.00 for a custom turbo back exhaust that I ordered on september. Got paypal and the BBB after HID tuning but they don't respond. I just heard form the BBB this morning but they can't get ahold of HID Tuning.
I must say, it is a very nice exhaust system.
If I were you, I would get a Megan Racing turbo back or Call Pna Motorsports and have them build you one. Thats what I am going to do as soon as I recover form this money loss.

You can get an even cheaper turbo back from Dejon, but it's aluminized. Mine was around $600 with an O2 eliminator, wideband bung, and removable test pipe section.

An exhaust shop that uses a "crush" style bender will not make a stainless system as the tubing will collapse (and you don't want a crush-bent system anyhow).

Megan Racing makes a very inexpensive SS 3" system for our cars that many of the vendors can order for you. I dont' much like the sound of the included N1 style muffler, though It's easily replaced :dsm:
