Colorado Springs,
Hi there, I have a 95 TSi AWD. I had always been planning on going with a Big 16G turbo with the proper supporting mods (550cc injectors, fuel pump - I already have everything else (supra smic, s-afc, pocketlogger, ACT-2600) but now I'm seriously concidering a 20G - Mainly because its the same price, if not cheaper when you take into count the 16g requires an instalation kit of additional I/C piping.

So heres my question: What supporting mods does a 20g require to be run reliably? Aside from the (obvious?) upgrade to 660 injectors - with pushing close to 400hp, would pistons/rods be good to replace? Thats another $1100 or so. Will the supra SMIC (about 3x as big as the stocker) be able to support the intake charge from a 20g?

The goal for the car has always been a streetable 12 second car. Ultimatly in mid 12s but not really any faster. I run at high altitude (colorado). Spool up times for the two turbos appear to be remarkably simular - I want a turbo with a spool up time of 3-3.5k but not much later. Any opinion and advice are greatly appreciated. I belive I have all current mods listed in my profile, but I may of forgotten some things as I havn't driven my car in 6 weeks (Broke the imput shaft on the transfer case).

660s would be a good choice for injectors
atleast a Walbro 255 fuel pump if not a Supra pump

no I dont think your Supra SMIC is gonna cut it, You will want a FMIC to optimize the 20G.

as for internals. You can safely make the power you want to make on the 20G on stock internals, its all in tuning.

Correct me if Im wrong but dont the 16g and 20g require the same install kit and ic piping?

The sidemount is fine for the 16g, but for a 20g I would say get a front mount.

DONOT put internals in the bottom end of a 7 bolt, it will crankwalk. The only thing weak about the 2g bottom end is the rods. Supposedly they are good for around 375whp. If you need to go further, get a 6 bolt bottom end.

2g rods are good well beyond 375whp. There's a guy here with a 97GSX (stock bottom end) runing a green and puting down well over 400whp and has not experienced any problems. You're fine with stock internals on a 2g, other than the fact that it might walk. Crankwalk is pretty much unavoidable tho, it's happened to people with completely stock motors. IT's more like a game of russian rollete. As far as the IC goes, the supra sidemount should be fine for around 18psi or so. If you put race gas in her, you're probably ok with 20psi but I wouldnt go any further than that. With a 20G and the supra sidemount I'd say you'd hit your goal of mid 12s, given you get some good tuning and all the supporting mods.
