Garrett turbo quality....

Do Garrett turbos come preassembled from the distributor when you special order/purchase one? Say you want a certain wheel/housing combo for your T3/T4. You tell the shop what you want. They order it. Do the parts come separately and teh shop puts it together, or does the turbo come already assembled?

I'm curious about this since Garrett prices can vary a few hundred dollars between shops for the exact same turbo. I know the few shops I would trust 100%, but what about the smaller shops that aren't marking up Garrett stuff through the roof? It would be THEIR build quality I wouldn't trust.

Any insight on this would be helpful.

A lot of turbos come pre-assembled, but when you want something custom the shops actually assemble them, I know companys like extreme turbo, turbochargers.com, and AGP assemble them themselfs... As far as small shops you would have to ask them.

Also be sure what you are getting, big shaft, small shaft, ball bearing, dual ballbearing, ceramic, etc. etc. this will all have an effect on price and performance. I would think that parts would come seperately from Garrett to their Jobber. But from Garret to you should be pre assembled. You should ask your self what your HP goals are and ask for opinions from people that have experience with turbos.

I'm looking at a normal Garrett turbo, no big shaft, no ball bearing, etc. If I were to order directly from Garrett, my prices would probably be quite high (as I don't see them selling directly to consumers for a good price). I already know what my goals are, and this link are my two choices of turbos.

AGP would sell you the 60-1 in t3/t4 form with the exhuast housing of your choosing for under $700
