Is there a differance between the 1.8 head and the 2.0 head? I have taken a 1.8 N/A head and put the 2.0 turbo parts in. Will this change anything in my current setup?

Thanks,
Marc

?????? What exactly did you do? Put 4g63 parts in a 4g37? If thats the case, they are completly different motors, designed for different things. the 1.8 is SOHC and the 2.0 DOHC.

More details on what you are trying to do would help...

I was just wondering if the head being a 1.8 would change the combustion on the car even though it has the 2.0 parts in it, or would it be consider a 2.0 at that point? I found this 1.8 head at the junkyard, in really good condition and wanted to put it on my 4g63

The parts between a 1.8 and 2.0 head will not interchange, they are completely different heads. The 1.8 is SOHC, it only has one cam.

Displacement is not determined by the head, but by the bore and stroke of the engine. So even if this were possible, it wouldn't change displacement.

Thank you Very much Suicidal2af, thats what I was looking for. See I didn't know that the 1.8 was SOHC. Its just that the head I got from the junkyard had 18 on the side of it. Yes its a 1g head. Somebody told me that it ment 1.8 liter head. Thanks once again for clearing things up. :thumb:

Right. The 1G 4G37 = 1.8L SOHC and the 4G63 = 2.0L DOHC. You can find this information under the Model Guide.

Also the 4G37 is an 8 valve head vs. the 16 valve 4G63, but as it's already been stated, they're completely different.

The point being, even if you could make it work, it would be a total downgrade. :dsm:

I think I remember reading about some 1g 4g63 2L heads have a 1.8 stamped on them, in fact i think i may have one at home, if i do i'll take a picture and post it.....

Is the head at the junkyard a DOHC? anyway i'll see if i can my other head with 1.8 stamped on it.

TSIMonsteR]I think the Hyundai valve covers some here use have 1.8 on them.[/QUOTE]

That the same thing I was thinking, that it came from a Hyundai.. Dont know any other head and bottom end that could swap into the Dsm's besides Hyundai....

Thanks TsiMoNsTeR,

Marc

and you have 450 horsepower awd and you want to know about a wack ass 1.8 head.....? You have no benefit with that disgrace of a dsm,
do you just need replacement parts or something? If anything youre better off looking at the n/a 2.0 1g if your looking for a quick replacement part.
