EPRom question

I know how to find out if I have an EPRom but was it an option or, how did they figure out which DSMs to put them in or not?

I believe its just by the year the car was made if it was made between 19xx-19xx then they put the eprom ecu in that year of car.

From what I understand that most if not all AWD after early 90 will have eproms in them. I dont know if they are compatible with FWD though, and I have yet to see a FWD with an Eprom in it. You can tell if you have an eprom by popping the ECU open and instead of a large square chip you will see an elongated, rectangular one. If you know some about computers it will resemble the BIOS chip since they are generally the same thing. I think there is a site which will give you actual ECU part numbers as to which one has eprom and which one doesnt. Try DSM.org or a similarly related site.

Friggin A... I just popped the ECU open from my 91 AWD Talon and it doesn't have an EPRom... Well, looks like I'm on the hunt for one.
