I was looking at all the cars with their headlights removed. Why hasnt anyone custom made an air intake extension that comes out of the hole where the stock IC goes; or put a intake under the bumper of the car. This will take the compressed air on the front end of the car and reduce it giving you more speed potential aswell as reduce the amount of lift generated by the air under the car so you will have better traction, and at the same time you'll be forcing air into the intake. I was looking at my friends car and he had taken his headlight out but there were framing parts blocking it and other misc. materials that when racing will cause air disruption and make the air intake less efficient.

they have made it. buschurracing sells a filter reloaction pipe to where your smic was.not really an advanced tuning question though...

bushcur does make the pipe, but the other reason is that most of us are cheap bastards :)

also you're not going to get much of a "ram air effect" with the turbo literally sucking it through the filter. the main idea is to try and introduce more air that is ambient temperature as opposed to that which has been sitting around the engine cooking all day.

could a mod move this to 2.0 turbo performance section please......

There's a VFAQ on something similar. It shows how to use the intercooler opening as a cold air intake. It also assumes you have a FMIC, as you wouldn't want to reduce flow to the sidemount. Not sure how much of a ram air effect it would have since it's not quite a direct air path. I'll see if I can find the link. I also heard of one guy putting in a second pop up headlight door right above the filter, behind the first headlight. That would work and keep rain out, too.

Here it is, check out VFAQ.COM/mods/ramair.html
And check out the whole VFAQ site sometime, there's a ton of mods there that don't cost a bundle to do.

I have done this on my 1g. I bought a perfect sized scoop from a buddy of mine that fit perfect over the passenger headlight on a pop-up 1g... but it probably could work for a non-pop-up 1g/2g to?

The scoop does keep out the rain and I did use some power tools to cut out some excessive metal to allow more flow to the filter.

EDIT: To make it clear, the scoop was easy to install, it was the other work to make the mod as worth while as possible that required the most time.
