I installed the apexi n1 catback and downpipe on my car a few weeks ago. There was a noise comeing from right underneath my e-brake. It sounds like metal hitting something. So i checked it out and my heat shield was hitting my exaust pipe. I decided to fix it today and noticed that not only was the heat shield touching but when u move the pipe up some it hits the metal on the hanger bracket. So i cut away some of the metal on the heatshield, and took the hanger bracket off. But then it just hit the bottom of the car. So then i put the bracket back on, took it off the jack stands and drove it. DAMN!!!!!! I only made it worse. The only way to fix it would be to put something in between the exaust pipe and the bracket. My uncle said put a peice of wood. But then i would have to do it every few days becuase i'm sure it would vibrate off. So basically i'm trying get some ideas of what i can do get the exuast pipe to stop hitting in a permanent way not just temperarily. How hot does the exuast pipe get? would rubber be able to withstand the heat? I was thinking of putting some rubber around the pipe on the area that it is hitting. Or also the rubber peice between the to hangers it touching together. Maybe if i could get one that is thicker so it pushes the exuast down more. Where could i find some of those rubber peices? Any ideas would be appreciated because now it makes the hitting noise at idle and between shifts and it sounds horrible. Thanks

i had the same pro. with my new exhaust on my eclipse. i took a hammer and a piece of wood and hammered the heat shield against the car and off the exhaust pipe

Sorry I don't understand you candela. But it is also hitting the hanger bracket on my car. So basically if i even remove the heatshield it will still hit the hanger bracket. And if i remove that then it will hit the bottom of my car.

any other ideas? What kind of materials could be put on a exaust pipe without melting or burning?

They sell exhaust 'hangers' in Kragen and Pepboys...
It looks like a thick strip of rubber with holes (usually next to shelves with exhaust tips)
I believe that is heat resistant rubber.

You can use that to tuck in between pipe and braket, or you can use two of these strips to strand the pipe and preven it from moving as much.

Well that didn't work but i got my problem fixed. I took it to a exuast shop and they rewelded the 2 hangers where my cat was. They just welded them a little shorter and now it is perfect. It only cost me $35. Now i like my car again. Well untill another problem arises.
