What the difference performance wise and boost control wise when you mount a wastegate to the manifold and to the O2 housing? Which would you prefer if you were putting on a 20g turbo or larger?

When an external wastegate is mounted on the manifold in a DSM, it's usually running off only one cylinder. If it's at the O2 housing, you get exhaust from all the cylindres. In theory, this is better, it takes equally from each cylinder, allowing smoother exhaust flow.

In theory the o2 mounted works better, but I've seen problems with cars that have them on the o2 housing -- in that it requires a "bigger" wastegate (40-46mm)... whereas a manifold mounted typically only needs a 35mm.

I am kind of new to the dsm cars. I am also kind of new to turbocharged engines. I was wondering what awas the difference between a wastegate, and a blowoff/bypass valve was. Are you suppose to upgrade them both, or will upgrading one due. If you upgrade them what are good ones to go with. What kind of wastegates or/and blowoff/bypass vavles do 2nd generation eclipse gsx's have. Thank you very much.

Wastegate prevents the turbo from producing more than a certain amount of boost.

Blowoff prevents excessive boost build up between the turbo and the throttle body when you let off the gas and the throttle plate closes.

Ok i was planning on mounting the wastegate(Tial 35mm) on the 02 housing, i recall that someone mentioned something about one needing a bigger wastegate if the plan was to moutn it on the 02 housing. How about if im going to be boosting pretty much 20 psi all the time. Do i really need a 40-46mm? Also the tube that the wastegate will be mounting to from the 02 housing isn't it like 1" 1/2 or something, ins't that too little and wouldn't it create creep even if the wastegate hole in the turbin housing is ported?? Thanks
