Aight guys .. heres my question.

My friend has an 02 4.6 GT mustang. We're making an intake manifold for it in school (wyotech, pa). Were going to do a dual throttle body set up on it and he is interested in using two 1g DSM throttle bodies for it. :D

I told him id give him my extra one and the one off my car if we could get the 4.6 throttle body or the 5.0 throttle body he has to work on the car. Now i think the 4.6 one would be more compatible cause its got the throttle linkage on the correct size where as the 5.0 is on the opposite side. Quesion is do you think the potentiometer in the TPS of the FORD and DSM throttle body would be possible to splice between them and still get an accurate signal?

Ive heard of people that have run a mustang throttle body .. but i cant remember where i saw it. I did a search and got nothing.

Anyone have any imput on the topic? Any advice ?

Thanks

Oh yeah .. im not really worried about the flange fit cause i may be fabbing a sheet metal intake for the car anyway (90 talon tsi awd) .. the main thing im worried about is the TPS sending the right signal .. if any to the ECU.

Your DSM is a 4 cylinder. The Mustang is either a 6 or an 8. You have to hack the throttle body, weld it, then get the right bolt pattern drilled in, then mount it and hope it fits in your engine bay.

Why don't you just go to the junkyard and get 2 throttle bodies off 1gs. Much easier.

How much power is that 4.6 making that it needs two throttle bodies? Lots of people use mustang throttle bodies but they are usually the 70mm or 75mm aftermarket units. The tps signals are the same.

mach1's and bullitts(and cobras i think) use a kinda dual throttle body, both are 50mm i believe, but theyre just two butterflies and openings in one unit, its not two independent throttle bodies.

the bolt patterns in the stang TB dont look too different from a dsm's. you might have to make a adapter plate if anything.

btw i have a mac 75mm tb for sale if youre interested, pm me, im not going to use it. i find modding the stang is going to cost too much and still wont be as fast as a dsm with that amount of mod money invested, so im just using the stang as a good looking dd for now, until i find a premo 1g awd.

Stapl3 .. your link didnt work for me.

As for the other question. The reason hes not using two 75mm throttle bodies is because thats WAY overboard for what he has right now. The intake mani hes making for his car isnt because he needs it its because he is designing a custom twin TB intake mani with much straighter runners and a way better design that we can dyno before and after its done to see what kind of power he can add. DSM TB's are an easy alternative since they arent huge but combined would give him a decent airflow.

napkintheif you said ..

Im not sure what you are talking about here. I was simply saying i would consider using a mustang tb .. what hacking would be involved? Right bolt pattern? I stated earlier i may be making a custom intake mani for my motor that would incorporate a flange for the mustang tb so mounting it and hoping it fits isnt an issue for me. I was just curious if it would work.

After looking at the two vaguely i think the 4.6 may be the way i have to go. Im still not sure if im gonna even do it .. but i may consider it.

Anyone else have any helpful imput. Id like to hear what other people think about it. Good or bad.
