Hey guys, was looking into re-doing my intake system and a couple of issued crossed my mind. First was having a metal intake pipe vs a rubber one. What I'm trying to figure out here is wether the absorbency of the heat from the engine bay on a metal intake would increase the intake temps greater than it would on a rubber one. I understand that the metal intake itself will absorb quite a bit of heat and quite possibly lower the air temps in the surrounding area in the engine bay, but how does that compare to the intake temps being heated up as a result of the heat absorbing metal? I'm really looking for the most efficient way to decrease air intake temps without other factors such as intercooler and such; simple the only factor able to be changed would be the intake setup. I would like to do a intake box style setup where the intake filter itself is in a box with only two 4" ports connected to 4" ducts to an air source. Once again I'm not sure wether to make the box itself out of metal or rubber. I guess since the air source is only coming from outside, that a metal box or metal plumming wouldn't be necessary as temps under the hood would not matter. Simple maintaining those temps would. So in my opinion, a rubber intake with a rubber box would be best, but I'm really open for opinions and suggestions.
