anyone have any idea how much it would cost to have custom intercooler piping made? Instead of selling my greddy FMIC and piping Im thinking of keeping the core and just having new larger more direct piping made but I dont even know the first thing about where to go. any ideas?

costs my friend 185$ for powder coated 2.5" pipin from turbo to TB.... we went to a shop here in phx. I can imagine it to be that much. just take it to someone who knows what they are doing it for and that has done it before and you should be good.

How much do you want to pay? Some exhaust shops will bend pipe for you if you give them an example of what you want. They don't charge much to cut and bend a piece of pipe. If you want all mandrel bends though, performance shops are the best way to go.

You will want to go to a shop that can bead form and preferably mandrel bend. You would be surprised that some "Mom and Pop" shops can do this relatively cheap. A premium example would probably cost between 200-300.

Not to answer for the all wise Larry ;) but the Greddy piping is no where near as direct as it should/could be. More direct piping would lead to quicker spool and less boost drop.

RNR racing does custom piping kits SS and Polished to a nice bling bling for 250bux. comes with clamps and couplers. all the pipes are usually one piece too.

I have a friend locally that does all kinds of work. I can find out what he would want to do that job. He could copy my uicp from my vp fmic. I know it will need to be some what different but the upper most section would be the same! Let me know. :dsm:

here's a link to some piping i made for different FMIC/turbo combo's using all mandrel bends. also a few other pics of some things i made as well.

i live in allentown, PA........

i would help you do it. maybe either send me the pipes and i could duplicate them, or bring your car by early one morning and we could make a full set.

what size did you need? 2.25 or 2.5?

how exactly does greddy run their piping?

I'm not fimiliar with the greddy setup, but I did the IC pipes on my car; not that hard.

I ordered mandrel bends from RRE. Each piece is between $10-$20, depending on size, bend, thickness, etc.. I bought a side to side spearco core (2-120) off the trader.

I used two 45 deg bends and one 90 deg bend. The 45's are used on the cold side, the 90 on the hot side, twards the IC. Additionally I used two 90 deg Al. elbows for the end tanks, 2 feet of silicon hose, and 10 clamps. Total cost: Roughly $150 for all piping/hoses/clamps + IC core

There are some pics in the gallery: http://www.dsmtuners.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=1427&thumb=1

Good luck Larry, If you have any Q's, hit me up on AIM or PM.

thanks guys.. I emailed RNR.. My first and best bet would be to just sell my Greddy Kit and get the VP Kit that want but Im looking into other options.

Nick, Ill check out your piping at the dyno and see if we could do something similar on my car.

even if you use larger piping... aren't the in/outs of the FMIC going to be the same size? Also isn't the Greddy core only 2" thick? I think you'd be better off going w/ a new setup w/ a real performance based FMIC instead of trying to make the ricer kit work better.

well the kit acutally works fine, the temperature readings that DSMlink is showing is perfectly fine. I just want shorter more direct piping to help spool time and clean up the engine bay.
