i know this is probobly a retarted question but i would like to know what a turbo timer does, how is it usefull for a turbo?

When you drive your turbo heats up. I can get into a really long technical discusion about it, but by basically allowing your turbo to cool before shut-down, will prolong its life. Using a turbo timer to run your car at a idle will allow the turbo time to cool down to a reasonable temperature where it can continue to cool at a safe temp when the car shuts off.

so basicaly it keeps your car running till the turbo cools down, then shuts off the engin?

Exactly. With many Turbo Timers, you determine the running time. I usually have mine set to 1 minute and 30 seconds. Some TT's like the Blitz DTT are hooked up to a vacuum source and calculate the cool down time for you and it runs your car for cooldown then shuts it off.

Mine acts like it wants to work, counts down and everything, but doesnt keep the car on :) LOL ... I think it blew a fuse, so I need to send it back to HKS ..thing is, if they say its not broke, they charge you around $120 to get it back...more than I paid for the stupid thing. Now thats what I call good service!

thanks for the input, very insightful. how's the car running?

Two years and going strong on my Greddy.

Any reasonable trouble shooter would eliminate the turbo timer instantly if there were any problems. This is because:

1) It is tapped into a major harness
2) It is non critical to the operation of the vehicle
3) It takes seconds to disconnect and restore to stock

Most turbo timer problems I have seen have been due to the owner not plugging the harness in far/securely enough. This can cause any number of problems. My favorite being the engine just shutting off while driving. Either that or a really crappy ground.

Most of these problems can be cured by something called "attention".

Bascially a turbo timer wastes about a hundred bux you could have used to buy something more useful. ;)
