toronto,
Well, its time to do the timing belt water pump etc etc.. And since the engine is 100% original I will pull the head and do the headgasket as well as some arp hardware.
I dont want to spend alot of money, I'm simply pulling the head, resurfacing it and re-installing it... I DON'T want to resurface the block, my question is whats the right headgasket for me? The local Mitsu has the stock gasket for 55 bucks... And I can get a Cometic non-high pressure gasket for just over 100... If I go with the Cometic will I need to resurface the block, also is the stock gasket with ARP studs safe with an Evo316g at 20ish psi?
Thanks in advance..

Depending on the condition of the block and head you might have to resurface them to get the cometic to seal. It does have a o-ring built in so this might help but for what you want to run the stock one will hold.

I was looking into this too. I want to run almost 30psi on a 57trim and i cant find a definite answer to the head gasket question? some say the mistu is good enough. some say no no. any input would be appreciated.

The mitsu composite gasket may not hold up at 30 psi but for anything up to 22 - 24 psi it will work just as good as the the metal ones and won't be a PITA to seal. I tried a cometic and couldn't get it to seal so I went back to OEM and no problems. :thumb:

I have a cometic on my car now, it seems to seal fine. I covered it in head gasket sealer and used ARP studs at 85ft/lbs. My head and block were both decked to make sure they are straight so that also help sealing quite a bit. So far so good.
