kirtland,
Hey, i was wonder about getting a cam gear for mey car. I have a few questions about them. Right now dont have spray or turbo. What could i expect from it?

The poster is an nt btw and while looking at your mod list, you have a turbo. The results may not be the same because of the turbo.

spyder power, it doesnt seem like you really know what you talking about, judging by your mod list, and the specifics you have posted, you kinda sound like a ricer. check this out, and see what you think...

20g turbo,tial waste gate ,tial blow of valve,550 injectors,fuel pump,intake manifold, racing headers,performance spark plug wires,big front mount intercooler,boost controller,gages,tack,dsm link,roll over cage,racing seats,gredy mufler.

these forums are for getting truthful information. if you dont know what you talking about^, dont post. common, a tial wg, with a 20g? and 550 injectors with a 20g? a "roll over cage" a greddy muffler? what about the rest of the exhaust? just somthin to think about.

No, no... it's gredy muffler.

Word, your porfile sounds a bit bogus....er, more like a wish list. That and if you have those kind of parts on your car then you should know the answer to your question, or know how to search.

:nono: :nono:

Okay i'm done venting now, continue with the thread ;)

And I bet all those parts, including the gredy muffler, are made by APC

This thread isn't turning out very good. The questions the original poster was asking is whether or not cam gears will be worth it for the money and time for install in addition to what types of gains there will be once installed. Well, whether or not it is worth it is up to you, it's a very arbitrary answer. The gains will be as defiant said, 5-10hp max.

I also do agree that your mod list looks pretty bogus BTW.

yeah, sorry, gredy. my bad. but acually, to answer the question on this post (wich i forgot to do in my earlyer reply) your stock cams are set up already to get the maximum performance. i personaly think that adding cam gears would probably hurt your performance. (but they do look cool) if you wanna spend the money, most likley pay to have them installed, then for the dyno time to dial them in (wich is trial and earrer and will take some time, and dyno time is not cheap) just to possibly put maybe 5 more hp to the ground...i dont think its worth it. for what it cost for cam gears, you could spend 150 more and get a nice little nitrous kit, and get some nice gains with that. just my thought, hope it helped.

but be careful with the nos," you dont wanna blow the welds on the intake manifold..." j/k

I wouldn't say that OEM cams are set up for max performance. They are a compromise between power/idle and emissions. Aftermarket cams are geared towards power while sacrificing idle and emissions. The cam gears are to fine tune everything.

Could you pick up a few ponies by installing them on an OEM cam? Sure. Is it worth it? Um, no, not for the price.

Generally the only substantial upgrade on a NA engine is a power adder (nitrous/turbo/SC) the rest is just fluff and baby steps.

Why would cam gears look pretty? Aren't they hidden under the cover?

Also, I would think degree-ing them would be a lot of trial and error I think right? And to be done "correctly" would mean on and off and on again on a dyno. I guess if you are intent on squeezing every last ounce out of a N/A setup it would be worth it.
