Doing a 6 bolt build up as a spare and a drop in for the winter. Couple quetions and suggestions from you guys please. Im no noob so technical is great.

I have a full long block which I stripped last night down to nothing I have everything out and ready for micing and rebuilding.

My question is on what rods and pistons are recommended for a streetrace/Drag race setup? I want to do this one once and I would also like the ability to spray it with around a 70 shot of N2O as well.

Next the head is in excellent shape clean as a wip and looks amazing inside this thing is dirty on the outside but perfect insided. I want to do some work to it as well and probably a set of cams and 3g lifters. Please give me a good cam setup for good mid to bottom and lots more up top my stock 6 bolt seems to run out of pull around 5500.

So basically I want a real mean street machine to have some fun with. Gonna use my 50 trim from my current setup, and everything else as well.

I would like to end up with a high 11 to very low 12 car.

I would say go with 1G rods and 2G pistons, but if you want to spray it then you may be pushing it. I will also say that for your goals you wont even need spray. You can easliy get a low 12 high 11 on pump gas with a 50 trim. As far as the cams go I would get a 264/272 combo.

I definately won't be using stock internals like 1g rods etc everything will be aftermarket. Also a head gasket solution would be nice.

Then it is just a matter of choosing parts that people have had good luck with. Honestly it is your budget that will tell you what you can get. The only thing I will say stay away from is JE pistons. The company is great and there products are top notch, but they dropped the ball on the pistons for our cars. Other than any forged combo will hold up to what you will throw at it. Perhaps PM people and see what there setup is and how many miles they have on the motor.

As far as the head gasket the mitsu 4 layer is a beast or you could go cometic. The cometics are nice becasue you can get them in amost any thickness you want. I would go with the the Mitsu 4 layer and ARP's.

Actually the 1g rods are good for at least 450hp. But if you're looking for over 500 i'd just go with the eagles. As for pistons i recommend wiescos. If possible get them side and top coated because you're planning on spraying. And when you install the rings make sure that you gap them correctly. As for the head gasket the cosmetic should do you just fine. If you're looking for a good street setup for a cam i'd go with either the comp 101100 series cams or maybe a 264/272 hks setup.

Well here is what I am doing now;

Eagle Rods
Wiseco 9:1 Pistons
Comp Cams 101200
COmetic Metal HG
Water Pump
ARP head studs
Clevite77 bearings

BS removed and New internals balanced.

unfortunatly I did and it didn't run too well. I was on stock cams at that time and only 22 psi untuned on pump and it did a 12.4. Now with the cams and tuning I'm sure 11s are there.
