Spring Valley,
Hey
I dropped a small screw down in the timing belt cover , so i Obviously have to get it out. I remover the Harmonic balancer and belts. I removed all the screws on the cover But i cant get it off cause it looks like its blocked in by a Pully. Now i have a 92 Talon. Would you guys like to tell me what pully that is and do i ahve to take it off to get the Cover off? and how can i get it off? and what other pullys can i replace with Underdrive Pullys?

Dave

There is a lot of crap the you have to remove to get that cover off. The pulley you are talking about is prob the water pump/PS pump. You also have to remove the A/C tensioner bracket. To take the pulley off, you have to loosen the the 3 bolts on the PS pump to loosen the belt. Then there are four 10mm bolts on the pulley that have to come off- these are a bioch to get back in if your doing this for the 1st time.

LOL
Whats funny is i just finished building the motor. 95 Pistons Ported head ETC.....and the mototr has 26 Miles on it and new Timing belt pullys and sprockets. Brand New timing belt too. I dropped a screw back down i9n the cover and i need tog et it out before i start the car. I figure now would be a good time ( with all the Underdrive pullys off ) is to get new pulls. Aftermarket. Where can youguys reomed i get them from. Iv been looking but id like to know what works best. Also i cant seem to get the waterpump pully off.........Can anyone tell me a trick to keep it from spinning or just how to get it off period.

The easyies way to get that pully off is to remove the motor mount like spoolin 92 said, But instead of using a screwdriver i use the belt that goes around it.

I put it over the pully and grab it tight close to the pully on the right side. pinch it tight with your thumb and fingers while useing a 10mm closed end wrench. You can also use the bolt thats sticking out from the motor for extre leverage (left side of pully).

Brake all 4 loose before taking them out. once it's loose its easy, put the wrench on the bolt head and spin the pully clock wise while keeping the wrench in one position. They come of really fast compared to tring to get in there with your fingers.

To put it back on- it's 2 pieces, line up the holes to match the key-way sticking out of the water pump wheel. Tighten one bolt up finger tight so the pullys dont seperate while tring to put the other bolts in.

Or you could save yourself the hassle and get one of the long magentic wands and work at that for a bit.Unless you reeeeaaaally want to remove that cover.

aww man... drop everything and get that g*d damn bolt. i just had that happen saturday, except i didn't know the bolt was down there. somehow in the rebuild process a bolt found it's way into the timing. i dry started it to get oil to the top of the motor. pumped out 175 psi all 4 cylinders. fired it up on the jack stands, ran beautifully. broke in the web cams for 20 minutes. sounded mean as hell. called it a day.

yesterday morning, put her on the ground, backed her up and played wit the idle. got it set and took off down the block, came back, ran great. let it idle for a little, took off again. flop flop dead. pushed her home. first thing i went for was the timing belt. there were a few cuts and scratches, but it wasn't snapped. figured it jumped a tooth or two. go a new belt, lined all the timing marks back up, ded nuts. 0 PSI

that's when i pulled the head... 8 bent intake valves. they aren't bent that badly though, could have been A LOT worse. the seats are still in good shape, i'll just order some stainless steel replacements from victory performance for $8 (unless anyone knows where i can get them cheaper...). the exhausts are perfectly fine, it was the intake cam gears that was out of whack.... so dont b*tch about removing all the belts and covers. if i'd have known, i would have torn it apart to get it.... so

GET THAT DAMN BOLT!!!!!!!
