OK I got the chip installed the gauges work fine I can select all of them no problem, but the car runs really bad! the idle moves up and down and im also getting a check engine light??? The chip is a stage3 but I also cant get the stutter box to work! With the key in the on psotion I push in the clutch and try to set my launch RPM. but instead of the car setting the launch RPM's its just switching the gauges again! it acting like It dosnt notice that the clutch is pussed in? I have a 2g TSI FWD. Do they only make the chips for AWD? I can seem to figure this out. I tapped the clutch wire into PIN 91 on the ECU and im pretty sure the wire is hooked up correct up on the switch. The stutter box will not work? If there is anything I can do or try please let me know my car is a daily driver and I dont and will not drive it like this!! please help

Who socket the ECU for you. Did you check if it works with the stock chip? Sometimes when you broke trace/s when desoldering the stock chip, it would cause weird things to happen depending which address line/s got broken. Do you have a logger, what code does it trigger the CEL?

I am pretty sure either you hook up the clutch wire wrongly or you dont have the right wire. The clutch wire is not an ordinary wire with just a splice, it has *something* on it and needs to be hook up a certain way to make it work.

ok The reason I got the CEL was it was the wrong wire that we tapped into on the ECU I got all that fixed and the car still wont stutter?????? and the idle is weird, the car also make a slight tapping noise? it has never dont this before the TMO chip, the tapping comes and it goes not very loud but noticable! im not sure what to do im pretty sure I have the clutch wire hooked up right, I bought the chip used from some one so im not sure if its the right wire? im really lost on what to do

Make sure the wire is installed in the right direction. There is a diode shrinkwrapped in the wire. If it is not connected correctly the system will not work right. Check TMO's site for installation info.

Are you sure that the chip that you received was for a 2g? I don't know if their different of not.. but I'd asssume so.

Also I purchased a chip used online & made my own clutch wire. I didn't use any diode or anything (just plain wire) & my stutterbox works fine.

Humm... All I know is mine didn't work at first. Called Todd, he said flip the wire around b/c of the diode. I'm glad your's works w/o it.

This must be what my friends and I refer to as a "DSM anomaly".

 Mine didnt work at first either. I couldnt figure it out, because why would it matter which way the wires go...i didnt see any diode??
I just made my own wire and it worked fine. Twitch: the chips are different I think. Do a twice over on the ecu connections and stuff just to be sure. If your positive all this has happened only after the ecu install then its gotta be something you did (not likely a coincidence). Who installed the chip. Just make sure everything is correct before you assume the chip is bad is all Im trying to say...

I had the chipped installed at a local electronics center they did a fine job. I dont underdstnd why the car runs weird? IT wouldnt be a big problem to me if the car ran perfect but the stutter box didnt work! my problem is that the car runs weird, and I dont feel safe driving it when it feels weird. THe car never make a tapping noise before the TMO and now it tapps????? I put the stock chip back in and it still tapps arrrrrrr I think I fuct my car

its a light tapping noise! it almost sounds like the injectors are louder! I cant really hear it to good from outside the car listening to the engine but when im in the car I can hear it. I dont know what to do. is there a 1g and a 2g chip? mabe a got a 1g chip I dont know. it dosnt say on there website but in all there directions like how to select the gauges its all for the 1g aaaaaahhhhhhh I dont know what to do

99% chance that you got a 1g chip... if you didn't specify. Have no clue on the tapping.. I know when you turn the key to on... the ISC will cycle back & forth... this may be what you're hearing... you wouldn't hear it w/ the car running though.

OK I asked the guy I got it from and he said its for a 2g? and on th echip it sayd its for a 2g? doe they make a FWD and a AWD chip? I cant think why else the car would be running weird?

OK for some reason the tapping has stopped I havnt herd it in a whil! SOrry I was freaking out im just paranoid when it comes to strang noises from my engine. Im thinking that I switched chips and was unplugging the ECU so much it just had to recalibrate itself? im going to call TMO and ask them about the chip!

When you unplug the ECU, it will take some time for the ECU to learn. The fuel trims will all be reset and it will take a few days at most. Idle surge, acting funny is quite common for a little bit. If you are not sure the TMO chip works. Swap in your stock chip. It should work. If it still does not work good, my guess is the socket is not done right. The guy may have broke a trace or two.

The wire is mainly for the stutterbox, it has nothing to do with the tapping and weird driving issue.

OK the tapping stoped I think the ECU just need some time to set things back. Thank GOD I was really starting to freak me out. Last night I put my stock chip back in and the car still tapped but agter driving today the tap is gone. Im getting a pocketlogger soon and I think ill wait to but the tmo back in till it get the pocketlogger. On the stutter problem should I try and switch the wires around that are on the clutch switch? Do you think that might fix the stutter problem?

thanks alot for all the help!

The long wire that go to the ECU should be correct. The two shorter ends are what people make mistake. Try swap the two shorter ends to see if it works.
