I just installed an autometer a/f guage tonight and now I notice my car isn't idling normally (100-200 rpms). I didn't disconnect the batt, but it's acting as it does when the ecu is recalibrating itself. The guage seems to work fine, so does the a/f readout on my apexi TT, and the car runs as if nothing is wrong. I'm assuming one of my connections is bad (I'll check as soon as I have the time) but if that was the case and the ecu wasn't reading o2's couldn't I expect more then just a crappy idle? On a side note, is the guage, when its jumping all over the place, supposed to spend time with no lights on? I didn't expect it to ever just go black. Thanks.

hmm.. i just put my a/f gauge not that long ago.. i didnt disconnect the battery as wel. but i dont have the problems you have, so i odnt know.. mine cycles during idle sometimes.. and other times..as you said.. will be all black.. until i press on the throttle and it will cycle again.. until it leans out again during idle.. i dont think anything is wrong with your o2 sensor or your hookup.. as you said.. your a/f gauge on the tt and on the gauge is reading normally? if it was messed up.. it wouldnt be showing up.. recheck all your connections.. thats all i can say.. good luck..

Sounds like you may have accidently disturbed something else when you were messing around with the A/F meter. If you had accidently connected the meter wire wrong or say accidently cut the wire in half, the computer wouldn't get O2 readings and would revert to a preset deffault. The car would just run richer. The gauge will not light up when slowing down, It will bounce during normal driving and you get your real readings during hard or WOT driving.

i had the same problem when i installed the same gauge. the problem was that the ECU had to recalibrate the idle trim. all i did was drive it around, stalled a few times, restarted the car and viola, it learns faster than an autistic child.

I understand the guage being black now, thanks. I re-checked and re did all my connections as well but I'm still experiencing a low idle, now and then, that wasn't present before.

GVTalon... If my ECU had reverted to a preset mode due to the wires begin hacked, is there any way I can tell?
