Hey,

I have a question about the HKS TURBO TIMER: TYPE 1 install on the
2g. I have a GST with a factory alarm. What happens
if you wire up the turbo timer and don't do the alarm on mod the FAQ pages? Will the alarm not work at all? Will the alarm
only work after the timer shuts the car off? Will the
timer not work? Or anything else that I did not think
of. I have also got the harness that goes with the timer does this help?

Thanks for the help,

Ian

the alarm will only "ARM" when the car is completely off... while the car is running however, you can still lock the doors with the key fob. so.. to get the alarm (security light on the dash) to come on.. you have to do the mod.

no the alarm does not set unless you set it after the car has turned off. basically the doors are locked, but the alarm is not armed

I did the VFAQ TT mod for getting the factory alarm to arm while timing down on a '99 GSX, but it didn't work
I still have to wait for the timer to turn the car off before the factory alarm can arm. Attempting to arm while keys out/timing down is unresponsive.

Can someone explain what the mod does exactly?

Brief description of mod:
Cut pin 6 wire (black/white stripe) from B-49 connector and splice the end from B-49 into pin 9 wire (blue) of the same harness.

Then cut pin 5 wire (black/white stripe) from B-66 connector, tape end going to plug and connect the end of this wire from car to wire from car from the previous B-49 pin 6 wire cut.

Also, are '99s wired exactly like previous years? Is the factory alarm identical to previuos years? I did the identical mod before on a '97 GST and it worked like a charm.

Thanks

PS: It is a PITA to do, primarily because there isn't enough slack in the harness wires to work on it in the open.

From what I make of it this mod, it switches the IGN input on the fac alarm over to the accessory wire.So the alarm senses the accessory wire instead, since the accessory wire does not have to be powered up for the engine to stay running.A easier/better way would be to use a pulse timer relay from DEI(available from alarm/stereo shops) to pulse the lock/arm wire (coming from the drivers door key cylinder switch) after the TT times out. This would lock/arm automatically when the TT is done.

Thanks Lightning,

It seems the only way to get the alarm to arm (regardless of TT) is to use the wireless key FOB. If you use the door lock from the outside with the key, it only locks the car and does not arm. Is this unusual? Should the alarm arm just from locking the door on the outside?

Do you know which wire is the lock/arm wire you refer to? Just in case.

Thanks!

This wire does not exist in the 1G's.According to my wire books 1994 was the only 1G available with the factory alarm. But I think I have seen other year 1g's with them.Anyway they don't have an arm wire only the 2g's.It is a green with yellow stripe(coming from inside the door) in the drivers kick panel.if someone sends me their TT wiring diagrams I could show you an easy way to do this, since I could never recommend cutting and connecting wires together in your factory harness.I am sure there is an output on your TT that could be used to automatically arm your alarm.

Thanks again Lightning,

This is for a friend of mine with a '99 GSX. I don't have any alarm on my DSM:shhh:
Actually I asked him and he said not to worry about it cause he's going to sell his car to get out of debt. Sorry if I put you through too much trouble to identify that wire. This particular TT is an HKS type 1. I was looking around at other threads, and I theorize the mod didn't work because the ACC is still active while timing down whereas with other TTs the ACC is off when timing down. I have not confirmed this yet, but it's just a hunch.

I appriciate the help you gave :thumb:

I believe the faq tells you to cut the TT's accessory supply wire.If your friend wants to do it or anyone else with a 2g/fac alarm/TT.All you need is 2 relays 1 resistor and 1 capacitor. This is far easier than doing that mod. This will automatically lock the doors and arm the alarm when the TT is done.
